Maybe this will usher in drastic changes to the sport? I'd start with mixing in a few tracks that actually have turns in them? The sport seems too simplistic to be very interesting. Just slam down on the accelerator, go as fast as you can and make a pitstop when the crew chief tells you to. I don't see a whole lot of driving skill in a Nascar driver--only nerves of steel?
One thing I can't figure out is it clearly looks like the guy behind purposely caused the leader to crash and flip. How "sporting" is that to cause your competitor to crash on purpose?

I watched *most* of the Daytona 500 and I have to admit I found it interesting. I haven't watched too much of the other races (too busy) but I plan to watch more this summer.
I think they could make some more safety changes to the tracks...maybe sink the tracks or raise the stands but I'm more concerned with these tactics of bumping and "spinning." I want to watch photo finishes and passes, I don't want to see crashes...
As a note Dale Earnhardt Sr when he was alive was one the roughest dirtiest drivers on the circuit and routinely bumped people and wrecked people to win.I was never a fan of his for that reason.
Let's get this straight: you think this crash is awesome in part because 10 innocent people were injured as a direct result.
Christ, you need to be banned.:ban::ban::ban::ban::ban::ban::ban::ban::ban::ban:
I used to watch NASCAR a few (OK, several) years back, when they had short-tracks (under 1/2 mile, very slight banking) But now the times when I do catch the end of a race, it seems to me that the whole strategy now is to be in second place when the white flag comes out, and spin the leader. Yeah, it's definitely on purpose ("heh heh that's racin' ")
Plus I don't even know who half these guys are anymore
The wreck was pretty entertaining because nobody got killed. The part where he peeled out on that guy's hood was cool too.
People loved to hate him, myself included
Now that he's gone it sure isn't the same to me
who is this guy? tracks under 1/2 mile???? very slight banking????
did you really watch?
bristol is .533 of a mile and martinsville is .526 of a mile
cant think of many shorter than those
Nascar in fact died when the black number 3 hit the wall in Daytona IMO. The fans who loved him didn't watch anymore because they couldnt pull for anyone else but him(I'm in that catagory) and the fans who hated him couldnt watch anymore because they didnt hate anyone else enough to make it interesting. Being from Kentucky however, it is kind of in my blood to like NASCAR. lol

I've not watched NASCAR since Earnhardt was killed. I've tried to watch it, but I just can't find a driver that gets me as excited about a race as Earnhardt. His son is a pompous jackass, and I can't stand him. So fuck him. Newman is from near me. And Stewart has a terrible attitude much like myself. But as far as who wins, I just don't care anymore.
Earnhardt is exactly how I'd be if I was a driver. Probably why I loved him so much! Rubbin is racing, fuck all you who disagree! As for the this win, Keselowski won ligit, Edwards took himself out. Watch it again!
North Wilksboro was a very short track, that is the only other really short track that they used to have on the circuit that I can think of that isnt there anymore, but there could be more that I can't remember. I'm thinking back to about 1987 which is when I became a fan.
