My hand is my best friend!
Now if only every other Nascar would crash and burn. No one has to die, just the sport ;)

Maybe this will usher in drastic changes to the sport? I'd start with mixing in a few tracks that actually have turns in them? The sport seems too simplistic to be very interesting. Just slam down on the accelerator, go as fast as you can and make a pitstop when the crew chief tells you to. I don't see a whole lot of driving skill in a Nascar driver--only nerves of steel?

One thing I can't figure out is it clearly looks like the guy behind purposely caused the leader to crash and flip. How "sporting" is that to cause your competitor to crash on purpose?

I'm actually a pretty big fan of the sport and saw the race and the wreck.I guess when you say have turns in them you mean lefts and rights instead of just lefts lol. They do have a couple races like that (Watkins Glen and sears point). But places like talladega are much more popular with the fans. That race was a sell out which in this economy is not a given for nascar right now.

While dega may not take much talent to drive, nascar cars as a series is one of the most if not the most difficult to drive.Much harder than Formula one cars which use all kinds of technology not allowed in nascar.Just ask Juan Pablo Montoya if driving nascar cars is easy.

As to that crash the eventually winner did absolutely nothing wrong. He went high and the leader (Edwards) went high to block so the kid went low and when Edwards tried to get low to block again he was too late and he wrecked. The kid could not legally go any lower(below yellow line) or he would have been penalized.Edwards (guy wrecked) wasn't mad at the kid he knew he just did what he was suppose to do (try to win).

I used to watch NASCAR a few (OK, several) years back, when they had short-tracks (under 1/2 mile, very slight banking) But now the times when I do catch the end of a race, it seems to me that the whole strategy now is to be in second place when the white flag comes out, and spin the leader. Yeah, it's definitely on purpose ("heh heh that's racin' ")

Plus I don't even know who half these guys are anymore:confused:

The wreck was pretty entertaining because nobody got killed. The part where he peeled out on that guy's hood was cool too.

I watched *most* of the Daytona 500 and I have to admit I found it interesting. I haven't watched too much of the other races (too busy) but I plan to watch more this summer.

I think they could make some more safety changes to the tracks...maybe sink the tracks or raise the stands but I'm more concerned with these tactics of bumping and "spinning." I want to watch photo finishes and passes, I don't want to see crashes...

I would like to go to The Daytona 500 someday--just for the experience--but the track that is fascinating is that short one--Bristol Motor Speedway. That track certainly does require a shitload of skill to survive...

They have done major things for safety especially at dega and daytona. In 1987 when Bobby Allison got wrecked and climbed the fence severly injuring himself and spectators, big steps were taken. The biggest putting restrictor plates on the carbs to slow cars down at those 2 tracks. They also beefed up the fence big time.I don't think anyone in crowd was seriously hurt were they?

As to bumping and stuff it is different at different tracks. At the super speedways (dega and daytona) no one is bumping trying to wreck the other driver, the chance of being wrecked yourself is to great if you do that. They bump because cars are faster in a line bumping each other,it usually is only a problem when someone bumps in the turns, that will cause wrecks most of the time.

At other smaller tracks like a Bristol or martinsville bumping is different,it is used to move car out of low fast groove and is part of racing. Its a rough part that people have to use carefully (cause what goes around comes around). As a note Dale Earnhardt Sr when he was alive was one the roughest dirtiest drivers on the circuit and routinely bumped people and wrecked people to win.I was never a fan of his for that reason.

to me when i think of legends of nascar i think the king richard petty and dale sr i mean you tuned in every week just to see dale sr he didnt take shit from nobody he is missed and loved so much . for years after his death in samll or big time tracks and races on that 3rd lap every1 stood and held up 3 fingers . but becuase of his death carl edwards was able to get out of his car and run across the finish line

Let's get this straight: you think this crash is awesome in part because 10 innocent people were injured as a direct result.

Christ, you need to be banned.:ban::ban::ban::ban::ban::ban::ban::ban::ban::ban:

did i say it was awesome that fans got hurt ? no i didnt and carl edwards himself got out and said man what an awesome crash what a ride . and get your rep and post count up before you come talking trash to those who have been around abit

I remember about 7 + years ago at a CART (Champ Car) race at Michigan Intl. Paul Tracy got into it with Adrian Fernandez in front of the stands and the Fans were showered with debris, some of it as big as a tire and rim.

I forgot how many fans were killed. It was nothing pretty.

who is this guy? tracks under 1/2 mile???? very slight banking????
did you really watch?
bristol is .533 of a mile and martinsville is .526 of a mile
cant think of many shorter than those

FreeOnes makes me moist!
People loved to hate him, myself included:cool:

Now that he's gone it sure isn't the same to me

Nascar in fact died when the black number 3 hit the wall in Daytona IMO. The fans who loved him didn't watch anymore because they couldnt pull for anyone else but him(I'm in that catagory) and the fans who hated him couldnt watch anymore because they didnt hate anyone else enough to make it interesting. Being from Kentucky however, it is kind of in my blood to like NASCAR. lol

North Wilksboro was a very short track, that is the only other really short track that they used to have on the circuit that I can think of that isnt there anymore, but there could be more that I can't remember. I'm thinking back to about 1987 which is when I became a fan.

I've not watched NASCAR since Earnhardt was killed. I've tried to watch it, but I just can't find a driver that gets me as excited about a race as Earnhardt. His son is a pompous jackass, and I can't stand him. So fuck him. Newman is from near me. And Stewart has a terrible attitude much like myself. But as far as who wins, I just don't care anymore.

Earnhardt is exactly how I'd be if I was a driver. Probably why I loved him so much! Rubbin is racing, fuck all you who disagree! As for the this win, Keselowski won ligit, Edwards took himself out. Watch it again!
