my research tells me that Rome was not a Republic
Quite a few Romans died by their fellow man trying to keep the Republic from turning into an authoritarian age of Emperors.
I find it hilarious when uneducated people point to a symbol with a rich and lenghthy history and clain that it somehow undermines the American way of life.
Precisly when, may I ask, did the United States ever have a dictator unaccountable to the will of the people?
Ancient Rome, and we all know they were one of the most communist empires that ever existed
Anyway, like Rey said, Rome was a republic, but with a constantly nagging autocracy via the emperors and their bloodlines. A lot of modern day symbols prevalent in government and even our own governmental structure are derivatives of the Roman blueprint. The presidential podium "fasces" that you described are merely an extension of that Roman culture. Their meaning really doesn't go beyond that...unless you want to bring the freemasonry conspiracy edge into it.Interesting, as Communism had yet to exist then.Anyway, like Rey said, Rome was a republic, but with a constantly nagging autocracy via the emperors and their bloodlines. IMO there is about 10 cents worth of difference between Communism, Socialism, Totalitarianism, Fascism, those isms do not do anyone any good

I prefer freedomism over all the others![]()
sorry thomas but I don't believe that Rome was truly a land of free people, my research tells me that Rome was not a Republic but a very totalitarian state in its own right, and it tried to spread its military across the known world for control and one of the many reasons why Rome fell was because it spread itself too thin kind of like another country is doing today so like I said the bottom line is the fasces today represents fascism which equals control of all by one
