Feds sue business for requiring employees to speak English...under a law that doesn't exist

The law does not say anything about “linguistic characteristics of a national origin group.” This is a new standard that the Obama administration has invented out of thin air. There is no law that says a business can’t require its employees to speak English, Spanish, or even Elvish if he or she feels the need to do so.

It is yet another blatantly unconstitutional abuse of power from the Obama administration. This executive branch believes it can punish people for doing things it doesn’t approve of, even if there is no law against that behavior.

In any business, communication is important. If you can’t communicate with your employees, work isn’t going to go very well. If you’re a business owner from Wisconsin, chances are, you need your employees to speak English in order to be able to communicate with them.

If you’re the Obama administration, you sue this business for violating a law that doesn’t exist.

I thought this might be one of those stories like the ones an old pal of mine sends me from NewsMax. But it's not. It's true. What can ya say? Someone recently asked me if I was moving to the right. And my answer was, no, I'm not moving to the right. I'm still pretty much in the middle. But Obama is running to the left. Moronic moves like this just make it more unlikely that any Republican (especially from the south) will ever work with Obama on anything. The political price would just be too high.

This is shameful. It really is.

Many multinational corporations require employees to speak English. They need common language.

Also, there are many positions in US corporations that require specific language, like Spanish to be spoken.

The FIA requires (or used to) teams to communicate in English over their radios during races and official sessions. Only Ferrari flaunts that rule, with (Spaniard) Fernando Alonso sometimes speaking in Italian to his crew. Everybody else abides by the rule and speaks English though - the French, German, Finnish and Japanese drivers. I guess if F1 grows in popularity in the U.S. and brings on another race here, the Obama Administration will sue them and tell them they can't do this either.

Say, if one of these folks, who cannot speak or effectively understand English, gets his arm cut off or gets crushed because he didn't understand something, will that be the company's fault for employing an unqualified person or the government's fault for mandating that the company retain unqualified people???

Mr. President, you're taking things waaay too far. You really are. Ease off the power trip. You're beginning to get drunk from it.

If for nothing else I can see a language requirement being needed for safety's sake in the vast majority of jobs. If some immediate unsafe situation comes about that needs to be dealt with in seconds you don't really want to try and convey that to somebody else with nothing but hand signals. That's in addition to all the other things one needs to communicate with their co-workers and the business' costumers for.

Geno's Steaks in Philly has a sign that says "This is America. When ordering please speak English." He had the sign up for years when one of his regular customers (a city councilman) told him to take the sign down because it denied service to people because of natural origin and was printed material making them feel unwelcomed. The owner refused to take it down and thus taken to court. His defense was that he had never refused a customer but if he couldn't understand what was being ordered he might give them the wrong sandwich. No one had previously had a complaint about the sign. Plus, no one could be offended about the sign if they were unable to read English. The case was dropped and the sign is still there.

My first manager position after working the door at this place they put me in charge of the busboys and food runners. I thought the GM was playing a practical joke. The Latinos didn't think it was too funny. They didn't realize that I was a better person than the one of their own who was an unstable cokehead. Anyway, my first meeting with those guys I broke the ice with some un-PC levity then reminded them I am a regular American White guy who speaks English and doesn't plan on learning even one more word of Spanish. If they wanted the better shifts then learning to communicate with their boss would be in their best interest. The ones who cooperated got the good weekend shifts and the other ones were lazy donkeys who were destined to wash dishes for all eternity. America is the Land of Opportunity; not the Land of Guaranteed Results.

Not only do you have to speak english you have to be ready to order when it's your turn. They are really particular how you order your cheesesteaks in philly, in their defense the lines are really long and if you don't know what you want after an hour wait then you're a moron.
