For the next Final Fantasy:

Yes, I bribed and cheated to get this far
I really wish they'd bring back the world map view. I have honestly been turned off from the series ever since FFX switched it to an extremely linear series. I miss the sense of exploration or being able to at least control the airships. Anyone know if FF13 is bringing it back? Also, I wouldn't mind if they brought the series back to a medievel setting (sorry, I don't count FF11 as a part of the main series). And lastly, if they wanna keep it futuristic please for the love of god don't have the characters wearing these weird techno clothes! I understand it's Japanese culture but I know I hate looking at them.
Anyone's thoughts on these or any other issues they'd like to see remedied?

You're totally right!! The world map was one of the best things in FFVII. Never understood why it had to be cut from part X. Though the graphics weren't as good on the world map as they were in the game itself, it was still one of the game's best features!!

As for the clothes... I don't mind.... And the medieval part... I don't really care, as long as it has a really immersive storyline...!

Nobody got any ideas? C'mon! I bet Square-Enix has some employees checking freeones regularly! ;)

I'm too lazy to set a usertitle.
I liked the world map also. It's just old school and I like being able to travel like that. I don't mind any level of technology in it as long as it's done well, but maybe they should sometimes change up the level of technology from game to game so it's not always the same. The biggest things Final Fantasy needs however is to get off it's watered down storylines. A lot of Japanese storylines are like that, but I have also seen some of them that are incredible so I know they have to have writers over there capable of doing it. They don't have to have the violence of an R rated movie or anything, or have the best storyline in history, but sometimes I think they make their games for 15 year olds or people that need to grow up. Even when I was that age I didn't like that kind of stuff. Square-Enix definitely has the money and resources to dump into making it good if they want to. It's too bad to because in the last 5 or so years American RPG's storylines have pretty much started kicking the ass of the Japenese ones. Most importantly they need to get off having countless juvenile semi-effeminate male characters in it. Maybe even make the protagonist a (gasp) mid 20 year old or even older instead of a teenager. I know a lot of gamers will disagree with me on this but, I also wish they would stop trying to reinvent the wheel each new game with the leveling and battle systems. A lot of them from the past worked fine and I sometimes wonder if they just neglect other things trying to come up with something new.

FF10 was the last one I played. That one and the ones after it turned me off too much.

Great point made concerning the battle system. I still just like the turn based battle system the most. Simple, but oh so effective, and most of all: fun to play!

No it isn't.
And i'm pretty sure all that stuff you want are in the Dragon Quest games.

I loved the world map in FF6. Two different worlds!

Plus Secret of Mana revolutionised RPGs went it came out. The best world map I've seen yet.

Didn't FFXI have a world map...? I assume the next MMO FF (FFXIV) will too...

I don't think it's necessary, but it does bring a higher sense of epicness (that's a word, right?) to questing if you have to trudge around the planet to get places...I would love an ACTUAL SIZE world map...how about a world map that had a kind of real world, living, breathing, shifting weather pattern? Completely randomized so that each playthough you could get doused with rain or pelted with hail during battles...! Or maybe certain monsters would only come out during different weather or what-not. There's a lot they could be doing to the world map concept with the tech available to them...
