Ford to surpass GM in sales for the first time in 80 years

Interesting. I wonder how much good-will Ford earned by not taking TARP money?

So, March is coming to a close & it was time for GM's cars to stand on their own. Edmunds predicted Ford sales will be higher than GM's. According to the Detroit Free Press: "Ford hasn't outsold GM regularly since the heyday of the Model T."

GM has been losing about 1% marketshare a year for over 40 years. Even with the recent restructure there's no evidence they've fixed their problems (and labor/unions aren't even in the top 5).

GM's biggest problem is that they have been making shit cars (for the most part....a couple of Caddy models are pretty slick though) for the better part for the last 20 years. Still, I'm sure that the TARP money issue was an important factor in a buying decision for many new car buyers. Truth is, except for trucks perhaps (debatable), Ford has been making better vehicles than GM has for a number of years.

If you look carefully, the Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus will be the only American cars on the road with a 40mpg highway mileage rating. The Elantra does it too. What's wrong with most of these car makers? It's not that hard to achieve these kind of numbers.

Oddly enough I only like their pick ups. Anything else anyone in my family has owned by them has been a lemon and I do mean every vehicle minus the pickk ups. They normally kept them a month or two had to many problems and just returned them and went back to Dodge.

Ford has been doing their homework the last few years making cars with decent quality, great interiors and somewhat decent fuel milage. GM (espeically Chevy) seems to be always playing catch up and well trying too hard (case in point, that fucking freak of nature called the Camaro and half the commercials they are shoving down our throats)!!

My mechanic told me Toyota is still number one, however, Ford is second on his best repair list and making ground on Toyota daily!
