Alright there it is from the sony conference....Ps3 slim is official, hitting shelves the first week of September for $299. Also starting tommorow the old system is going to $299. There's the $100 price cut...

The slim system basically looks the same but is smaller,34 percent lighter than the original ps3,draws 34 percent less power and comes with a nice wopping 120gb hardrive.

ps3 firmware 3.0 coming soon adding tons of new and unique features to the xmb and overall online experience. I'd check out a gaming site for the details its very interesting stuff.

Looking for 360 news other than games getting released dates. Conference just opened nothing new going down yet.

On the other side LOL,sorry Shayd, its posted that the xbox360 failure rate has reached 54% with surveys saying the RROD's continue to rise. OUCH!!!

You're neglecting one very important part of that survey:

the survey of 5000 console owners

There are approximately 35 million 360 consoles in the world. That 5000 is an excruciatingly small sample size, and is in no way reflective of the true failure rate.

That being said I personally think the rate is probably higher than that.

Wow,higher? Are the newest ones off of the assembly line breaking??? If so I thought the issue had been solved??? Or is it that the consoles that have run great for people since launch are finally RROD'ing???

You know I was just being sarastic friendly wise when I said "Sorry Shayd" right? I meant no offence was just joking.....

No 360 price cut or Elite sku replacing the Pro bundle.....said due to overstock of Pro bundles out there.

Biggest news in xbox camp was Fable3 announced....

The higher number had very little to do with new units and everything to do with the sheer quantity of initial models manufactered. There are stores that are just now getting the newer consoles because they bought a huge quantity when the 360 launched and couldn't just absorb the cost and this had to sell the early units which by in large failed.

And don't worry bud, no offense was taken at all my friend.

Yeah, its like what are you gonna do, send everything from launch back to microsoft and have a team of people sitting in a room to try to pick out the bad apples???? Thats ashame cause some poor gamer could get home with the thing, after finally getting to buy one, not knowing it was sitting there since launch and then it could crap out on them at a quicker pace since it was sitting there......

Can a system thats been sitting on a shelf for 4 years and already deffective have more of a chance of an RROD??? 360 Launch is gonna be 4 yrs this holiday. Thats a long time in a store with 4 years worth of seasonal temperature changes...

Yeah, it's a tough situation for retailers, especially since they bought most of those units at the launch price, and would be potentially losing 300-400 dollars per unit sold back.

To be honest, I haven't seen any substantial studies on the X-box failure rate as a correlation to time in store/on the shelf etc... but intuitively, I'd say probably not, because the only thing that has a 100% correlation to the failure at this point is overheating components, which really can only be effected by the amount of time the console is played.
