I have often (as you know by now) said that the republicans claim to want small government that stays out of our lives but never stop intruding and pushing their agenda on all of us. I have been challenged many times by you religious nuts here to name ways that this is being done. I always include the sodomy laws in my argument but whenever I bring it up it is scoffed at and I'm told those laws aren't enforced and that I'm full of shit.
Well BULLSHIT my friends! It has been enforced constantly over the years in the 14 states that still have sodomy laws on the books, even though more than a decade ago the supreme court ruled them unconstitutional. Just recently a hill billy sheriff in Louisiana setup a sting operation to lure gay men not to a park or public place, but to a private residence where they were enticed into performing sodomy (blow jobs, pussy licking or ass fucking) and then arrested. The punishment in Louisiana is up to 5 years of hard labor. Now sodomy doesn't just say gays, it also includes acts of sodomy on same sex, opposite sex and animals, yet not a single female has been arrested in the US for sodomy in more than 20 years. It is a law being used to target gay men.
These are under the "Crimes Against Nature" statute.
Republican governor Bobby Jindale has refused to comment on any of these cases. His office refuses to comment. How could he? he wants to run for president in 2016 and god forbid he offend the religious wackos by getting rid of anti-gay laws, even though they have been proven to be unconstitutional.
For those of you who have scoffed at my claim about sodomy laws, you might wanna read up on it a bit. In July, Virginia attorney general Ken Cuccinelli, who is running for governor as a Republican, launched a new website to defend his state's anti-sodomy law and vowed to enforce them. The governor of Kansas refused to get rid of the anti-sodomy law even when ridding the state law books of outdated state laws.
The district attorney has refused to prosecute these cases because they have been already determined to be unconstitutional. However, imagine the shame and embarrassment that these men have had to deal with over this. They hide behind the excuse of trying to rid public parks of sexual acts but these were all acts that were agreed to with undercover officers in private residences.
So please, stop trying to convince anyone that these laws are not being enforced. In fact over 300 gay men have been arrested for sodomy in the US since 2010, knowing that these cases cannot be prosecuted they arrest them anyway. Every single sheriff involved in all 300 arrests are elected republican officials.
