It is real marriage. A man can marry multiple women or another species of animal but when two tax paying adults that have their shit together (more than a huge amount of straight couples) they're told they can't get married. He would've still been religious, even if he didn't pick up prostitutes, or commit serial murder. Religion wasn't the trigger that put him into killing mode, likewise he would have still been a brutal killer, without religion in his life. They are coincidences, and have little to do with each other, in most cases...just like in most cases, priests aren't child molesters, and most gun owners aren't murderers. If you do however positive things by giving money to the red cross or participating to charity rallies or even donating clothes to poor families or give funds to association of poor people, you show that you have a heart.
