He finally went completely off the reservation ...
Can someone give me an unbiased view on what this Glenn Beck guy does? And if soooo many people hate him, why is he so popular?
Here is Glenn Beck in a nutshell ... he was never a news correspondent, journalist or even really an analyst. One of the first people I noted pointing that out was, ironically, Bill O'Reilly when someone mentioned that CNN had Beck, who was right leaning. I remember laughing out loud at the airport, saying, "true."
He was a radio personality who moved into TV at CNN. Then he moved to right-wing TV, Fox. But at Fox, he built something unexpected, but not-so-unexpected to me ... a "cult of personality."
He kept having to one-up himself, go more radical, started inventing conspiracy theories. People ate it up. But more and more he took it way too far. He started losing the same base that tuned into him. Eventually he'd hit on every minority viewpoint, from the Irish to the Jewish. And he alienated significant portions of his fanbase.
Why? Again, he's not a news correspondent, journalist or even really an analyst. He had no foundation. There are people at Fox who do, even though they are often right wing (and very right wing because there's not another right-wing TV outlet so it's so concentrated).
I don't hate Glenn Beck. But he does come off as a scolding teacher that is really ignorant and reaching for a story. Some analysts do that as well (Bill O'Reilly is extremely arrogant, and that's his thing -- and he gets a kick out of those who parody him too), but they are not so ignorant, and not inventing stories (even if they are analyzing with a major, political agenda).
I have always ignored Glenn Beck. Now more people are doing the same.
Best fucking news I've heard all day.
Glenn Beck: Bad News for America.
The key is recognizing he's never been news.
There are reporters.
There are journalists.
There are analysts.
Glenn was neither ...
ever.
I
never watch analysts. The only time I see them is when I'm at an airport and CNN or FNC is on. They just remind me why I don't watch them. They
all have political agendas. I'll give quite a bit of left from MSNBC (they don't have a neutrality statement, but even they are trying to tone-it-down lately), and a massive, dose of right-wing radiation when I see several on Fox.
But Beck was never even an analyst, and literally built the classic "cult of personality" that is self-destructive.
