Gold Question

So gold is 1,600 an ounce, record high but they say its gonna drop like a gold zeppelin soon.
I have a bunch of rings I came into recently mostly 14K with stones in them, some diamonds but mostly rubies, emeralds ect.
I'm going to sell the chains and charms I have tomorrow but I'm wondering if at that price it may be best to remove the stones from the rings and just sell the gold.

What do you's think?
Prudent or not prudent?

You will need to remove the stones because there is not some set price for stones like there is for gold.

If you sell your gold to a cash for gold place they will rip you off.

you need to find a precious metals place that will buy the gold from you for the market value. These places are the places that cash for gold shops and pawn shops use to sell their metals to.

They will take your gold and weigh it and melt it down in front of you, they will pay you the going rate.

A cash for gold place will buy your gold for less than it is worth and make money when they go sell it to the precious metal place.

well they got to make a little on their end at least right jenk?
I think 10%
I wont go to a pawn shop type place . A friend told me today his wife took two skinny gold chains to a place in the mall today and got 170 bucks for them.

I figure if gold is going for around 1600 and ounce, and 14k gold is 58% pure than around 800 bucks an ounce should be about what a legit place would pay.
I guess.

You can also look at putting it up for auction. The comission fee is a fuck of a lot less at an auction house than it is for those cash for gold rip off places and you might actually net a lot more. Just put a reserve on it.

Look in the yellow pages for auction houses and give them a call. The first one that you call may not have a big market for precious metals but if they're a good auction house, they'll recommend someone to you.

I was encouraged by a wise mentor in to stock up on gold in '02.

We will not do it, but the US should sell off gold to pay off the debt.

That will kill anyone who invested in gold, but what the fuck, right?

sold it for 20 bucks a gram for the 14k.
best price I could find.
of course 45 out of 50 of the rings were costume as were most of the chains.
still made 700 bucks though and still have 90% of the merchandise.

I probably could have mailed it all to a online buyer and got a hundred or so more but I didnt .
