Google Redirect Virus

howie789

I know how to use the search button!
Does anyone have this? I've tried using CCleaner, Combofix and TDSkiller- to no avail. How would I get rid of this virus permanently...HELP!!

hitman pro 5 has a free trial, got rid of a rather nasty virus for me. Or Spybot Search and Destroy which is free to download

Hitman may not help with this one. Hubby dear had to go in and remove the redirect malware when I had gotten it since hitman didn't detect it.

But, as you know it's worth a shot!

The one that works for me most times is the free 30 day trial from Kaspersky

If you need a quick fix you could also download an obscure browser that no one else uses as a work around

You would think it's something you could identify with Hijackthis then remove it that way...

I guess it depends on if it's an actual virus or just a browser hijack.

Otherwise, another tool You Might want to try would be McAfee Avert Stinger. Which is a simple, free download from their site. I know it's found viruses before that were invisible to AVG, Malwarebytes, etc...

I had this virus and it was a motherfucker. I tried everything and the only thing I could do to get rid of it was do a system restore to a point at which I had saved. It was a real bitch.

Oddly enough every major virus or hijack I ever got came from visiting The Superficial website. I will now no longer visit that site as they have shit screening for what ads they accept. The hijacks were most likely from malicious ads they allowed to run on their site.

Oh and I will also be switching to a Mac when I get my next computer. Windows officially sucks at this point.

....beware though ^^ been a spate of malware attacks for the Apple most recently...and Apple were late to respond too .

You know...sometimes I'll check yah:yahoo::yahoo: or G:clown::clown:gly from time to time and it will show my location/locale in Columbus or someplace in Central California or something...I wonder what that's about?:cthulhu:

Yeah but the amount of attacks against Apple computers is still very low compared to PC's. I am tired of being on constant defense when I surf the web.

statistics ? I am never defensive -- I let trusty Avast do the hard work ;)

To be completely honest, if you're smart about how you set up your system and what you click on, the amount of truly malicious viruses you're exposed to is very low.

I've worked at FO for just over 4 years now and have managed to pick up only about 6 maleware problems (2 of those were from non-porn sites to boot!). Though, I do currently hold the record in the office for picking up maleware the most. Probably because I'm the one that's forced to do all the research. ;-)

We shouldn't have to be so defensive while surfing the web. And that is for those people that know what they are defending against. There are still a ton of people out there that are clueless but have to use computers. They are forced to in this modern era.

That's kind of like saying you shouldn't have to be so defensive when driving, crossing the street, or walking through a crowded mall.

You shouldn't have to, but that's what happens when you're anywhere with the public. There's idiots as well as those that intend malicious things.

If I didn't have to go to dodgy places or click on dodgy links as part of my job, I'd be perfectly fine because more than 90% of protecting yourself is as easy as having some common sense. Of course, current society is sorely lacking this human trait.
