What am I doing here?
Human rights groups claim that porn is just the beginning of full censorship of the Internet in China which is most likely true. Not only does China hate sexual freedom which includes porn but also freedom of all kinds. They have used the tactic that the anti-porn groups generally use which is children with their protect children from these images lines, I just hope that the anti-porn groups don't use this as an idea to get rid of porn but knowing those fuckers they will.

I'm so great I'm jelous of myself.
By cutting out porn, maybe they're tryng to reduce their bandwidth requirements

Using my own internet use as a model and extrapolating out for 1.3 billion users, if porn is excluded then the whole of China could get by with one 56k line

Every since they have been in business with China it's amazing how thoroughly Google has sold out.

Yes its amazing with Googles influence over many walks of life that they bend over so pathetically to the wishes of countries like China. Would they perhaps be quite so accommodating governments of countries like N Korea?

I really don't understand why it is such a big deal. Do they really think they can stop people from having sex and taping it?!!! HELL NO!!! Girls like me are going to keep showing it over and over again!!!

Especially after Google's whole "Don't be evil" philosophy they came out with. It must really be "Don't be evil,.....unless profit is involved."

No one has enough time or money to do this. This would seriously take over a decade at least. Think of all the new pirating systems that come out every 3 seconds. As long as theirs google adsense and other ways of making money. People will continue to use them and make new websites.

Yes as with all things there are ways round for sure, but when was the last time you did a search on something other than Google, I cant seriously remember the last time I didnt use google for a search. Their share of the search market is something like 60% at a conservative estimate perhaps more, thats a hell of a lot of quality searches to cut out. I personally would find it much harder to use the internet without Google, if you dont believe me try a day or two without it!

To be fair, although there is surely a financial motivation, I think this move is far more about simply following the laws of the land. Google has on multiple occasions had to deal with censorship in the US, specifically with the issue of pornography, so taking this step is really just doing the same thing it had to do in the US.

Yes I think on the whole you cant be too far from the real motive. Usually money has a bearing on the issue, after all Google is by no means a charity is it. You quite rightly highlight that in the US they have fallen foul of censorship laws, remind me introduced by the Bush administration? We will perhaps never know the details of the arrangement, or the possible sums of money which may be involved aside from the details they have chosen to made public.
