GOP Moving Toward Center?

Jagger69

Three lullabies in an ancient tongue
The chief strategist for John McCain's presidential campaign this past fall is suggesting that the republican party change its stance and support the right for gays to be married....just as if they were real human beings like the rest of us! It's very refreshing to see a significant personality within the GOP break ranks with those who automatically conform with the conventional pandering to the religious and homophobic wing of the party and speak out for basic human rights that all of us are entitled to as American citizens.

If the GOP isn't careful, they just might lure ordinary mainstream social liberals like me to actually consider voting for them in future elections! Either way, it's certainly encouraging to see a call for change within the republican party back toward the center. I applaud Mr. Schmidt for his courage and conviction on this issue.

Conspiracy...
Moving towards the center is a move to the other side.

Not that it matters much. They are both the same party and have been for quite sometime.

I couldn't disagree more. An argument can certainly be made about the similarities between the 2 major political parties in the USA in a number of different contexts, but the issue of gay marriage is unquestionably not one of them. Moreover, there is an extensive litany of other issue-related differences between them that are far too numerous to even attempt to discuss. To argue otherwise, especially in the exclusively subjective fashion that you have employed in this exchange thus far, is simply incorrect.

John McCain's chief strategist / campaign mgr was / is a member of the democratic party as I recall, and didn't said McCain camp mgr make a fortune off of one of these financial house busts recently ?

And isn't it odd that McCain's campaign was dead broke and in dead last place
amongst his so called republican contenders (and nearly pulled out all together) about a month prior to the Iowa Cock-u.s. . . . then suddenly, out of nowhere, the McCain camp experiences a surge of cash and ultimately finds itself leading the pack until finally, he become the nominee for president of the USA (?)

Which dem front group infused the McCain camp with all of this money you ask ? . . . and better, why would they do such a thing ?
You see, instead of electing a guy that actually knows how an economy works as in the ousted Mit Romney, America was left with :

A. Old Crusty Fuddy Duddy Guy in John McCain
B. A young polished teleprompter reading extraordinare . . ..The second black President, should he succeed, in a one
Barak Obama.

Thank you Georges Soreohhhs

Ahhh, Strategy

The rest is history.

Wow....what does that rant have to do with my post, F? You're saying this is a democratic conspiracy? Believe me, they are not that well organized. By the same token, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean nobody is out to get you. :D

Then again, perhaps you are correct. It is probably silly wishful thinking on my part that anyone from the republican party would believe in the tenet that all men are created equal.

By the way, you never answered my question in an earlier thread about the fucked-up wind you guys had waiting for me when I visited your particular section of la-la land this past week. I mean, seriously, do the Santa Ana's go that far north? Or, perhaps that was a republican conspiracy to make sure that this social liberal had a really shitty time when he visited the central California coast?

You really are out of the loop, aren't you Jagger?
The Santa Anas are caused by gigantic, well-concealed, La Raza controlled wind machines. The intent is to create such dry conditions that strategically set arson fires will then decimate California, causing white people to flee, en masse, after selling their property at pesos on the dollar to the reconquistas. What you experienced was them just turning over the machine engines to help keep them in good working order. They won't get really serious about this stuff until the month of October :)

The problem with both parties is they focus on "wedge" issues, rather then the important ones.
There are three things you can't base your vote on God, Guns, and Gays.
I am a strong 2nd amendment supporter, but my vote doesn't just go to the guy who is pro-gun.
Why you ask?
Well, the economy, healthcare, workers rights, etc.. are more important. Yes Barack has made it known about his stance on gun control, but I need to support my family, pay for my house, and keep decent work in my area. Where would I be if I voted differently, probably holding all my guns trying to figure out why President Mccain didn't like unions negotiating my wages and benefits.
During Bushs time with a solid Republican control did they overturn Roe vs Wade.NO!
These issues are meant to divert our attention from what is important.
The right and the left need to move a little more to the center to catch up with 80% of America.

Well, you opened your post by suggesting that McCain's political director has credibility and I simply don't see it. He Lost !
I respect your opinion and all as always, it's just that sometimes we question each other in terms of how we arrive at our opinions.

I will be free to admi You're saying this is a democratic conspiracy?
I'm saying that GS has a history of pledging money in the direction of John McCain.
Believe me, they are not that well organized.
do not agree, they're very well organized
Politics is the art of Conspiracy (both political parties) it's standard operating procedure. What do you think lobbyists do. but that's old, tired and worn out, the same as "communism" is, I get it.

By the same token, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean nobody is out to get you.
How about "Just because one is paranoid . . . " I will concur with you 100 %. If ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC and PBS etc. didn't report it, it never happened ? That's almost religious - like loyalty, isn't it ?

Then again, perhaps you are correct. It is probably silly wishful thinking on my part that anyone from the republican party would believe in the tenet that all men are created equal.
Created yes, it's just that we develop differently and . . . well that's another thread in itself. :D

Did I post in this thread ? I don't recall doing so.

We had some raging westerlies just this past Tues & Weds. BTW - FWIW

and finally - I have no dog in this fight about gay rights. I would neither oppress nor celebrate those in the gay community, nor would I desire that my conventional sexual orientation be oppressed nor celebrated. I don't care much for the overt display of lewd behavior between two men in public i.e. gay parades that I see on tv from time to time and I don't think that the gay agenda should be a standard part of the curriculum in public education.

I also don't care for a disproportionate amount of gay agenda representation throughout the media and other public circles. Finally, I don't much care for the politization of the gay agenda, particularly when there are more important issues to take up, like this nations' ability to survive over the next ten years.

Maybe if I had a gay son or daughter I might feel different, but I think that I'm right down the middle on this one. :yinyang:
