It's good to be the king...
The Score by The Fugees

Since their work is mainly hip-hop based, they definitely deserve a mention.

PS: The Chronic by Dr. Dre. Deservedly a classic for announcing hip-hop acts like Snoop Doggy Dogg to the world and establishing Dre as a major player.

^ yup yup... which is why it's my no. 2

Dre himself isn't much of a rapper tho. He rarely writes his own material.

Artists who have written songs for Dre: Nas and Jay-Z.... Royce the 5'9" wrote every one of Dre's verses on Chronic 2001 I believe...

That Fugees album launched Wyclef AND Lauryn Hill's career, despite having at least 2 albums previous to the Score.

Beastie Boys - Hello Nasty (1998)

P.S.

I'm new here (after hanging around for awhile) and this is my first post. This is a great topic. A lot of hip-hop albums from the 1990s are played out, but Low End Theory is one I can still listen to over and over. Also, Mr. Scarface is back by Scarface of the Geto Boys was definitely ahead of its time.

I almost forgot, but "Quik is the Name" by DJ Quik is another classic. It came out in 1991, which was one of the best years in rap music before it got too commercial and mainstream.
