The One and Only Big Daddy
You'll enjoy this then. The Canadians were allowed pretty much anything home except certain weapons - my grandfather brought home an 1878 St. Etienne revolver(still have it) that he got for some cigarettes from a French resistance member after the war.

But on the way home, while boarding the boat, he was forced to hand over the MP40 submachine gun in his possession. When my grandfather told me this story at the age of 9 years, I went ballistic with WOW!!!!! and I've often imagined him getting that gun back home for me to worship as I did with his two pistols(2nd being a Colt .38 Automatic long barrel 1908 - still got it).

Every time I look at the pics I'm swelled with pride and love for he and his Great Generation that made our lives the lucky existence they are.

Cheers:tongue:

Royal Canadian Air Force 410 forever!

I would love to met your Grandfather Those sound like great stories:thumbsup:

He was my best friend and the single most important person in my healthy upbringing. Grandma was a bit prejudice and small minded but gramps was so gentle and kind and respected all peoples. He taught me about the true nature of war and I didn't realize it until my late teens, early 20s. I lost him in 2003(grandma first and then he went to her side just 3 months later) and he's more alive than I ever imagined. Much love Skyraider!

Messerschmitt Me 262

The Messerschmitt Me 262 Schwalbe (German for Swallow) was the world's first operational turbojet fighter aircraft.[4] It was produced in World War II and saw action starting in 1944 as a multi-role fighter/bomber/reconnaissance/interceptor warplane for the Luftwaffe

If Hitler hadn't delayed production demanding fighter-bomber capabilities of the ME262, the war may have been a LOT longer and more costly to the Allies

We ALL need to remember this and treat our seniors with much respect, they gave us the keys to freedom which we've so tarnished and polluted. I went to Normandy in 2006 and I cried upon entering the Omaha National Cemetary and also when I visited a Canadian cemetary alone in the farmlands of Normandy. They gave their lives so I felt it my duty to return and thank them

Three lullabies in an ancient tongue
Anyone ever heard of the Texan I think it was a fighter-bomber no it was a training fighter:glugglug:

The AT-6 Texan was a workhorse trainer during WW II:

No need to be sorry, OSP.

What awesome stuff....hallowed ground. There is nothing on earth more worthy of honor and respect than a fallen soldier fighting for and protecting his homeland.

Thanks for the terrific pics!! Excellent album!

Yes, these words change as I post more!
The BF-109 is my favorite fighter of all time. It looks evil, sinister and beautiful. Of course, its performance was eclipsed by more advanced fighters like the Focke-Wulf and the P-51. WWII super aces all flew the 109 (Hartmann, Marseille, Rall, Galland, etc.).
