Harry Potter - I really like this book...

I don't think I look like a nerd, but i definitely have nerd qualities. i also embrace those qualities. Maybe I am a little socially inept, but having looked around at the people, not being a part of the cool herd isn't such a bad thing.

Ashlee, i don't get the tats thing, but more power to ya and keep reading. if you want something a little heavy and well-written, pick up some Pat Conroy.

Maybe when your finished with HP you could read a real book.

Only good post in this thread.

Are you guys for real? I thought you had to be 18 to be on this board.

P.S. Every girl says they like nerds, but would never actually date one. Every bombshell I see with a I Heart Nerds shit I want to choke out. Lies.

P.P.S. Harry Potter isn't nerdy. It is childish. Kids books. No doubt they are great kids books, but for adults to read them is wierd.

Maybe after you're done Harry Potter, you can pick up Twilight. I hear the kids love it.

I am guessing you haven't read any of them and are making the typical board assumption that you are right. And I am making the classic mistake of arguing in a board. Why a mistake? because arguing on a board is like the Special Olympics, You Might win but are still retarded.

It is a cruel line I read on here somewhere but it is funny. So with that, I am not gonna argue this point anymore.

That's bullshit.

People need to grow up and stop with the whole nerds vs jocks mentality. Anyone who thinks having intelligent or quirky interests is stupid and wrong needs to drag their brain out of high school, and get over that whole OMG NERDZZZ R BADDD shit.

By the seventh installment Harry Potter was by no means a kids book. It was dark and disturbing and dealt with death, abandonment, loss of family members and loved ones... sure it was no twisted, adulterated Chuck Palahniuk novel but it's very uneducated to act like Harry Potter is all sunshine and rainbows and magical fairy dust just for the kiddies.

It gradually develops over the series. The first two books weren't that great in my opinion and were definitely aimed at younger kids, the third one got more in depth and by the fourth book it had become a lot more mature and started dealing with themes like death and loss. The fifth and sixth books were really good and written to appeal to an older market, and there's no way young kids would've been able to follow the storyline. The seventh book was a fucking bloodbath, she was killing off well-loved characters left right and centre.

LOL, all you HP haters have ho idea what HP story really is, it's much more deeper than most of so called 'adult' books, but not everybody can get it.

so just convince yourself that you aren't nerd because of not reading 'child' books...

and a conclusion i just made. you are as much wise as much wisely you can perceive things around you.

No Pasarán!

Are you sure about that? Really?

I have no issue with people reading Harry Potter, the fact that I havent is because the premise really does not interest me. Fantasy is not my genre of choice. But if you enjoy reading it, what the fuck do you care what other people think?

Enjoy the books and quit whining about other people.

I read the first book and half of the second, then got bored and read something else/better.

Deep? Depends on the person whos reading it, really. For me, it wasn't.
It's not about nerdiness, that doesn't bother me, it's just written like a kids book.

Oh, and Harry Potter wasn't the first book to talk about death and loss, just so you know...

I never said there was anything wrong with having nerd qualities. I have a bunch of them. All I'm saying is there are TONS of girls who SAY they love nerds and they are lying. If you are the 1 in a 1,000,000 exception then good for you.

It's like girls who say they wish they had a nice guy. Meanwhile they date assholes every time. Girls say they wish they had a nerd boyfriend who they could stay at home and play video games with, meanwhile, they date the fucking clown in a pink shirt and popped collar type and go get hammered shitfaced every night and get treated like shit. And they never learn.

This is a bitter subject for me. :(

I'm aware of that, I read a lot of books ;)

I'm just saying that for a book that many people assume is just for little kiddies, it's got a lot of adult themes.

I think the main reason I'm quick to defend it is because when it first came out I was one of those people sitting on my high-horse clutching my copy of 'Wuthering Heights' and talking about how stupid Harry Potter was and how it's for children and it's immature to read it and I only read REAL books blah blah blah... then I actually gave it a chance, and I was hooked. Admittedly I did start with the fourth book which is one of the best in the series, and I didn't read the first three until after I'd read four and five.

I get that it's not for everyone, because at the end of the day it is still about wizards and magic - but it annoys me when people act as if I am stupid and uneducated just because I really like those books. I enjoy many different books of all different genres, the Harry Potter series is one of them.

Being bitter about stuff like that only exacerbates the situation, believe me, I know.

I was a fat unpopular loser nerd all through school and I had no friends and boys never paid attention to me, and I was bitter about it and because I was bitter and negative it made people not want to be around me.

When I finally just realised I should let go of that shit and move on with my life I became a much happier person and people wanted to hang out with me.

All the guys I have dated in the past have been nerds in some way - my current boyfriend is a music producer, he's obsessed with world history particularly WWII stuff, and he racks up more hours on the Xbox than most people I know.

If you stop being bitter, you'll attract a lot more people. True story.
