Have you ever felt anything "special"?

DJCowboy

Yes, I bribed and cheated to get this far
I'm not talking erections!

I'm actually talking something spiritual (sorry, I'm an agnostic who switches to atheism every so often and that's the best way for me to describe it). Ever just get that rush? More than likely it's adrenaline but I even get it when seeing something powerful, like when I held my niece for the first time or when seeing volcanoes in action in Hawaii knowing this was a huge part of the reason life started here. Or the ending to certain movies where it just pulled at your heartstrings. What about you all?

Hell, I'm just listening to music right now that can evoke that at times. What about you douchers!?

Interesting that you are a self-described agnostic and/or atheist but you relate to the prospect of having a soul. Which I suppose in the realm of metaphysics is the only way we as beings can experience spirituality IMO.

Hence, if we have such things as souls, how could that be achieved by a mere coincidence of organisms? That doesn't seem logical IMO.

Not what I started this thread to discuss, but I don't believe I ever referenced a soul. I was just trying to describe a feeling

well. i think what you are feeling is something very special indeed.

id continue exploring why you do feel like that both with others externally but more importantly, within yourself. i hate to sound like a mystic but self soul searching is really important.

personally, i believe in god very much so. some of the best evidence that one does exist is the world around you. the gift of life and the love of friends and family. the intricacy of nature and the world. the sheer amazement of life and everything around us.

btw, todays christianity isnt what You Might think it is. you do very little and you are good with god. it isnt about living a squeaky clean lifestyle or being good and doing good deeds in anyway. its about believing. we are all forgiven and thats the best part. we are allowed to live without restrictions.

I know. My post was more of an observation than a call for a discussion on it per se.

However, what you describe and express as spirituality would seem to be a circumstance only interpreted by way of what we understand is a soul.

I'm not special, you're not special nobody is special. If we all disappeared tomorrow the few people that have the misfortune of knowing us might grieve for a bit but the world would not miss us.

Spleen

Banned?
I went to a church in Mexico that on the outside looked like a normal catholic church. Inside, the floor was coated entirely with pine needles, and small candle sticks were EVERYWHERE. I mean there were fucking hundreds of them, it was dangerous. It was totally silent, deafening silence... At the front, a family were crouched down, the mother was gently whispering prayers. After about 10 minutes, she pulled a chicken out of her handbag and snapped it's neck. It took a couple of tries, which made me laugh. Luckily, she found it funny too.
After that, they pulled out a bottle of mezcal and each took a sip.

And that was that.

It blew my fucking mind. I don't believe in much, but to see people who believe so deeply in something that they have to go through these insane rituals made me feel very spiritual.

I didn't say anything for the rest of the day, I was in a total trance. Although I did order some shrimp tacos, but that was just one sentence. Then silence again...

The world has missed allot of individuals...it's moved on but there are people who've made their marks and are contemporaneously missed.

As contemporaries start to pass on... some of us go from being missed to remembered or commemorated. For good reason in some cases as the accounts and acts of the lives of some can serve as examples, lessons and/or inspirations to others.

Re special: Well, I suppose that can mean different things to different people. But it's hard for me to imagine the energy which makes us, 'us' (our soul or spirit) stops being simply because the organic matter it operated met it's shelf life.

IMO that energy goes somewhere to likely be a part of something greater or a greater state of being.

Things in this life only have value we attach to them... so I think anything we feel is "special" IS special... to us.

I enjoy the feeling of learning something, the feeling that comes from the transition of not-knowing to understanding is my favorite thing in the world. Alas, as we get older, this feeling of "revelation" becomes harder and harder to obtain...
