I used to walk the railroad tracks to get from home to work. Last time I did it, I came across a puppy that had been recently struck. Obviously dying and obviously in a lot of pain...but I simply could not do the deed, so I called the cops to do it. But, even more than 25 years later, the eyes of that puppy are still remarkably clear in my mind.

I decided for some odd reason to drive fasternusual down the road once. Straight into a flock of pigeons. One didn't fly away fast enough. I remembered for long afterwards holding its little body as it died. I felt so helpless. I remember how warm it still was. The pigeon's neck was broken. It was really not a pleasant feeling.
As for hunting, well, I tried hunting rabbits, with no success. I couldn't shoot animals in the wild, not anymore.

Never have. Learned how to handle a rifle to go hunting back when I was in elementary school, but couldn't go through with it after I saw a dead deer hanging in my uncle's cabin.

I've been hunting before, but I try to limit myself to deer and elk and animals like that. I don't like killing smaller animals, even when I'm driving. I remember the first time I ran over a gopher with my car; I was depressed for the rest of the day.
