HDMI Cables

I know how to use the search button!
What is the difference between male-to-male, and regular HDMI cables? It seems like the male-to-male are much cheaper. I'm trying to hook up my PC to my HDTV..should I use this male to male? A 12 footer online is $12-13 on some sites. A regular HDMI one at Best Buy, at 12 ft, would be $75 or more. Is there any difference?

Isn´t a male-male cable the regular cable? A male-female cable would be an extension cable.

The difference in price is nothing more than BestBuy's exorbitant mark-up. I haven't bought a cable at an electronics store in at least 15 years. Online is always cheaper and 99.9% of the time results in the exact same cable.

Don't fall for that "gold-plated connectors," "super-high quality shielding," and "degaussing ring" nonsense either. HDMI's inherent error correction makes signal quality a moot point. Either you'll have a 100% clear picture or you'll have no picture at all. Good article about it here.

This is the truth. the $5 dollar cable will do just as good as the $75 one. I suggest getting your HDMI cables online somewhere, like newegg.com for instance.

What he said...

Or a better way of thinking:

Regular HDMI: Penis on each end.
Male to Female HDMI: A guy who can stick it in himself (not a nice thought - though it can connect).
Female to Female: One end a vagina, the other an ass.

There is a reason they call the ends either male or female. :1orglaugh

I'm using a £3 (roughly $5) cable for my PS3, which it's fine. You, like myself have no idea why people would pay so damn much for a cable... Except possibly for the non-existent warranty? :dunno:

I would go with the male to male cable, go to a staples or some other electronics store for it not Best Buy.

Most people I know who bought an expensive one did so because they didn't know any better, and a sales person lied to them. Best Buy folks will talk complete bullshit trying to get customers to by exorbitantly priced cables. My friend was in Best Buy once buying a PS3 and the guy told him that not only would his picture quality be better with the gold-plated $70 cable, but he even told him that a cheap HDMI cable could damage his TV and void the warranty on his PS3. He said "You've got a state of the art HDTV and the best gaming console on the market, do you really want to go cheap on the cables? I mean you wouldn't put cheap low quality gasoline in a Lamborghini would you?":wtf:

DO NOT buy an expensive ass cable from Best Buy or anywhere else for that matter! I bought a cheap cable at Walmart for my PS3 and HDTV back in 2009 and it works really well.

Also, don't buy the bullshit Monster cables. It's just a name and a regular HDMI cable will do the same job.

As said a couple of times, male-male is a regular cable since you plug the cables into something. Into your TV and into your cable box for example. Male-Female is an extension cable.

Best Buy is actually the worst buy, they are way too expensive. 2 suggestions:

1: If there is a computer show and sale going on near you go there and get them. You can find average to superior cables there for far less than Best Buy

2: Newegg.com - hands down the best place to get anything computer & electronic related. The selection, prices, and speed of delivery are top knotch.

I just bought a new PC. I shopped Newegg.com but ended up buying directly from Dell where I got to put a couple hundred dollars worth of customization on it and got a nice package deal to boot. Fast service from Dell.

I would use Newegg.com for any kinds of accessories or parts. It's a nice site.

Agreed. Not only do they have good prices, but they're trustworthy too. I had a friend in college who bought a flatbed scanner from them. When it arrive the box was mangled in shipping and the glass on the scanner was shattered. He called them to complain and before he knew it, not only had they given him an RMA without question, but they actually shipped out a new scanner 2nd-Day Air BEFORE receiving the damaged scanner that they were replacing. They simply sent it on his word that the damage was real and that he would send it back to them. They made not one, but two loyal customers that day.
