Health Care - problems...?

We hear that are between 40 and 50 millions Americans who do not have health insurance. Who exactly are these people? I have read that many are illegal aliens and over half of the uninsured make more than $50,000 a year. They can afford to buy insurance but prefer not to because they believe that they will get free or sharply discounted health care anyway. And quite a few others are eligible for Medicare of other government programs, but do not sign up.

Uninsured people do receive health care. Some pay for it on their own. But most go elsewhere. Many go to emergency rooms for treatment, which are mandated to take all comers, insured or not. In these cases it is ultimately the taxpayer and hospitals who end up paying their bills. Some uninsured patients get heavily discounted services elsewhere.

If we are already paying the tab for health care for most of the uninsured in one form or another, how come the Congressional Budget Office says that the Obama plan will cost over $1 trillion dollars over the next 10 years?

Anyone know if any of this is true?

You ask questions it would take a book to answer lol and I will only touch on a few of the parts of it just not possible to explain all of its complexities here

Those are republican talking points ,they may be true but do they matter?

For the most part those things they talk about are true. But they do not as the people who say them would like you to beleive really matter very much as reasons we should do nothing about health care.Examples of people just focusing on certain aspects of an issue and as they say missing the forest for the trees.

First off when people don't have insurance and show up at the emergency ward when they are in real bad shape is a terrible way to provide health care. Its mutiple times more expensive then if they had just had insurance and gone to the doctor earlier and been treated. They wait till its really bad health issue and costs lots more to treat. We need them gettting more and earlier preventive care so they don't end up costing that much.

As to that some people elect not to buy insurance who could and have the money.Sure if your young you probably don't need much health care so why pay for something you won't be using ? But they shouldn't be allowed to have that as an option.Insurance pools work best(or really only work at all) when all the risk levels are included and all are in.

The BIG problem with health care is cost IMO,bigger then the problem of the uninsured.

As to the trillion bucks and all that.Spending a trillion bucks by the govt would be fine if we were going to see that amount or actually even more reduced in the spending on health care in other places like private insurance. We already spend enough on health care in this country to have eveyone covered. That you don't hear that very much is just a sign of how powerfull the vested interests like insurance companies, drug companies, doctors etc are.

Going back over 6o years when the UK was embarking on its national health scheme the same arguments were aired. The medical profession was strongly against it and just having come exhausted out of WW2 there were many who doubted whether we could afford it.
Surprisingly the impetus came from the conservative right and the socialists were reluctant to embrace it.Nowadays of course they will tell you it was all their doing.Shows how preconceived ideas don't survive the onset of reality , the service works.

Facetious

Those are republican talking points

I would tend to disagree, they're talking points to whoever gets stuck paying the bills, both democrat and republican, of course you'd only know this first hand if you were the one paying the bills.

they may be true but do they matter?
 Do they matter ? That just goes to show that you don't pay any bills from the till of your hard work.

Universal health care is the radikal activist socialist - communist imperative to make all things equal, it has nothing to do with improving heath care in general whatsoever, it has to do with people who would otherwise not have any say so, being that they're entirely government dependent i.e. welfare reliant having the ability to reduce the middle class down to their level.

Some people elect to take the path of being a working, tax paying and contributing member of society (only to be begrudged by those who don't)

Some people elect to take the activist role only to become the perennial bitchers & takers of society. Take take TAKE !! Gimmie gimmie GIMMIE !

Some things are just beyond your comprehension I think lol.

As to "talking points" watch C-span more.Especially the special orders by republicans at night. This break down of who the uninsured are and why has been one of their main topics.

Further read the the thread starters link. The PHD who he quoted from makes some excellant points, like.

"Americans now spend nearly 17% of GDP on health care. This is 5 to 10 percentage points more than is spent in other developed countries such as those in Europe and Japan."

And our GDP is much larger than theres!!!!!!!!

"If we are already paying the tab for health care for most of the uninsured in one form or another, how come the Congressional Budget Office says that the Obama plan will cost over $1 trillion dollars over the next 10 years?"

We pay to much facetious I can't see how or why you won't acknoledge that?

We must do something as this will break us economically in the coming years right?

I would rather we just got rid of all health care and let people be sick die whatever then let our economy be destroyed .

But thats not a reasonable stand I know lol.So what do we do?
Squeeze every efficency and cost out of it we can I think is the answer.
