Helen Mirren unpatriotic on Letterman

I know how to use the search button!
Bhopal was an absolute tragedy...however, those from the UK should probably be wary of scolding the US on humanitarian crises in INDIA. If we're going to go back to events 25 years in time, why not talk about 50 or 75 years as well? I'd say you have us beaten hands down when it comes to generally fucking over the people of that country.

to be honest ulysses, i don't know anyone personally over here who's blaming Britons for the oil spill. i do see a lot of people blaming a company for it, just as they did when Exxon fucked up.

when finding fault with a company, to blame all the citizens of that companies origin is rather silly. but that's where the media and govt likes to play cos it rallies the short tempered for votes and sells commercials.

I never thought the people were blaming the British public and I think the American people have every right to be furious as this is affecting their homeland, I just wish the government would punish all those heads of corporations that don't act responsilble inc Warren Anderson who has to answer to the deaths of 20000 odd Indians. My problem with Helen Mirren is not that she criticised BP (of course they deserve it) but I don't think she really has any real interest or knowledge on the subject and the way in which she said it sounds like she was simply jumping on the bandwagon and trying to impress Letterman and his audience. I also think that the Oil companies need to be more heavily monitored as they should be able to provide contingency plans for all possible 'incidents' and have these readily available for inspectors to view at a moments notice.

yeah i hear ya, and she probably was pandering to the audience but thats pretty much status quo for american celebrities to criticize harshly on their govt in an effort to appear abstract and intelligent. it works for some but fails miserably for most of em, as we see here. she might have been following that path which is probably not the smartest thing she's done. i do think if you sat down with ms mirren you'd probably discover she loves her country and wishes it the best but then again, maybe she doesn't lol. all in all though, its best to not get to unbridled about celebrities and the things they say. the dixie chicks is a good example, what they said was forgettable cos i don't even remember what they said, but the over blown drama that came of it seems pretty silly now and quite memorable. cheers mate

She should keep her trap firmly zipped shut, better to make no comment on something she knows little about and let people think you are a fool than to open it and prove it beyond all doubt! If she knew anything at all about the BP fiasco she would know that BP dropped the British some time ago because there is now American money in BP, and furthermore there were American companies just as much to blame for the rigs failure. Obama is just kicking BP because he's looking for a scapegoat, and he to has been ill advised and should be doing what I advised Ms Dumb, oops Dame Mirren to do, keep it zipped.
As for the football comment, Britain doesn't enter a team Dumb, oops Dame Mirren because we have four seperate Football Associations, England, Scotland, Wales and N Ireland, that's why we do not enter the Olympic Football competition.
And if she likes it over there so much, you can keep her! Her relatives in Ilford will be ashamed of her.
Why am I even bothering to comment? I meant to be posting in the 5 Pornstars I'd like to fuck most, Ms Mirren isn't on the list, and for god's sake woman keep your bloody clothes on!

Myth 1: Men want sex more than women
why would criticizing BP be unpatriotic.........its a pvt company i thought.....that messed up <by spilling oil near/in a developed country instead of some african wetland like all the others>

The more I look, the harder it gets!
These loud mouth narrow shouldered, thin lipped "British Empire" types need to be put in their place. How dare attack Helen Mirren, who simply stated the truth. BP are a bunch of criminals who need to be made to pay for the damage they have caused.

How is it 'unpatriotic' to criticize a multi-national conglomerate, and a game where most of the players are foreign nationals (Premier League, anyway) and the majority of ALL play and players reside in countries other than England?
Er, did you read the original article? She was not criticizing a multi-national conglomerate. She said she was relieved it was a draw against the yanks, but she calls the English team the British team. It was a pathetic attempt at sucking up to the yank audience.

Yea, no criticism here at all:

"Because you know if Britain had beaten America, what with BP, which to my mind stands for bloody p***-poor '"
