Hillary / Obama offer Russians American weapons inspections

The United States is "very interested" in working with Russia to establish a Joint Data Exchange Center that would enable the nations to share information on missile launches, Clinton said, adding that Washington has invited a Russian delegation to view a defense site in Colorado.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said his nation would require additional details on the new missile defense plan to know whether collaboration could occur, AFP reported.

"The more we get to know this new plan, the easier and faster it will be for us to reach an understanding of whether we can jointly develop a project that would unite not just Russia and the United States, but the Europeans," Lavrov said.

A shared missile defense system, he said, "would allow collective work on the analysis of existing missile threats, and on the basis of this analysis, the development of measures to counter these threats" (Agence France-Presse II/Spacewar.com, Oct. 13).

"We want to ensure that we answer every question asked by the Russian military or government ... because we want to be as transparent as possible," Hillary said

Bearing that in mind, and examining the global situation as it exists in 2009, this idea may have a lot of merit.

what the fuck you lookin at?
who gives a fuck about russia? Seriously, so what if we exchange info with them? First off, who's to say they would be 100% forthcoming with said info, or not try and hide something from us? Besides the US and russia have a sorta unwritten respect for each other in that both sides know they have enough nukes to completely eliminate mankind many times over.

Also I don't think its russia we need to be worried about anymore. At least not as much as some other countries. At least russia's president is civilized. Same can't be said for the leaders of Iran, Afghanistan, and Korea...

Iran and Korea use for the most part russian made weapons. I guess OPSEC went right out the window on Jan 20th. From a strickly military perspective this is bad, really the only defense site in Colorado I can think of is NORAD. Unless this is going to be like a "told you so" to the russians. I would invite former Sovite brass and rub it in their face.

Also, they will lie. Just wait and see.

So what exactly did we get from the Russians? Will they let us in to examine their missiles? Will they go along with us on imposing tough sanctions against Iran? Putin is playing us for fools. He cut his teeth working for the KGB and transparency to him will be a one way mirror.

This.

The Cold War may be over, but make no mistake, the government of Russia is NOT our friend.

The Cold War may be over, but make no mistake, the government of Russia is NOT our friend.

In 2005, Russia was the seventh largest trading partner of Iran, with 5.33% of all exports to Iran originating from Russia,

Motor vehicles, fruits, vegetables, glass, textiles, plastics, chemicals, hand-woven carpet, stone and plaster products were among the main Iranian non-oil goods exported to Russia. HMMMMM Iran is trading chemicals to Russia, who has ICBM's, interesting.

As confrontation between the United States and the European Union on one side and Iran on the other escalates, Tehran is finding itself further pushed into an alliance with Beijing and Moscow

Russia and Iran also share a common interest in limiting the political influence of the United States in Central Asia

Unlike previous years in which Iran's air fleet were entirely western made, Iran's Air Force and civilian air fleet are increasingly becoming Russian built as the US and Europe continues to maintain sanctions on Iran.

yep NOTHING to worry about russia steping on American soild at all.

A little history on Mr. Putin
Putin joined the KGB in 1975,

He then went on to work briefly in the Second Department (counter-intelligence) before he was transferred to the First Department, where among his duties was the monitoring of foreigners and consular officials in Leningrad, while using the cover of being a police officer with the CID.

From 1985 to 1990 the KGB stationed Putin in Dresden, East Germany

June 1991 he assumed a position with the International Affairs section of Leningrad State University, reporting to Vice-Rector Yuriy Molchanov. In his new position, Putin maintained surveillance on the student body and kept an eye out for recruits.

resigned from the state security services on 20 August 1991

So let's let a man who has a history with the KGB into our country and show him our defense facilities. Prime minister or not this man should NOT be premitted onto ANY military installiation that the US has.

Nø and I doubt that Hillary ever thought to ask all of the gleaming scowling and INTIMIDATING RUSKIES for reciprocity. :1orglaugh
Will they go along with us on imposing tough sanctions against Iran?
Interesting, that was the whole purpose of her (Hillary) trip to Moscow. But NO
quote :
"Lavrov never said that sanctions were not an option no matter what. "Sanctions become inevitable when absolutely all political and diplomatic means are exhausted.."]

Diplomatic means are exhaused ? As Mahmoud A mad jihad almost daily speaks of removing Israel from the face of the earth ? Diplomacy ?... Exhausted ? The iranian leader is simply buying time IMNSHO.
Putin is playing us for fools. He cut his teeth working for the KGB and transparency to him will be a one way mirror.
100 %

I realize that your questions were intended for effect but I couldn't resist. :o

I wasn't aware that a Secretary of State has the capacity to unilaterally offer foreign officials such transparency, open house to U.S. missile sites ? ! :dunno:.

That's a carbon copy "The Nation" response, the 1960 whatever part. :p
It "may"have merit but on the other hand, we like to hedge our bets on the side of our National Security Interests.

So, Bodster, there was some validity to "w's" revelation about looking into pooty poot's eyes as they exchanged belt buckles on a South Central Tejas "brush ranch". (cuttin' brush again :o)

The obama administration is the most naive administration I have ever seen, even Bush jnr wouldn't have authorized that. But when you have a bunch of morons that are to play the world peace makers and tensions appeasers, it leads to this kind of shit.

Russia was estimated to have around 6,681 active strategic nuclear warheads in its arsenal. Russia also has a large but unknown number of tactical nuclear weapons. Strategic nuclear forces of Russia include:

Land based Strategic Rocket Forces: 489 missiles carrying up to 1,788 warheads; they employ immobile (silos), like SS-18 Satan, and mobile delivery systems, like SS-27 Topol M. Both are ICBM's

Sea based Strategic Fleet: 12 submarines carrying up to 609 warheads; they should be able to employ, in a near future, delivery systems like SS-N-30 Bulava.

Strategic Aviation: 258 bombers(36 Tu-160,64 Tu-95,and 158 Tu-22m) carrying up to 924 cruise missiles

Where as te United States is one of the five recognized nuclear powers under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty ("NPT"). It maintains a current arsenal of around 9,960 intact warheads, of which 5,735 are considered active or operational, and of these only a certain number are deployed at any given time.
These break down into 5,021 "strategic" warheads,

1,050 of which are deployed on land-based missile systems (all on Minuteman ICBMs),

1,955 on bombers (B-52, B-1B, and B-2),

2,016 on submarines (Ohio class),

If Russia is already trading with Iran what is not to say that these weapons can not end up n Iran?

Yes, that is exactly the point. It is part of the ongoing negotiations with Russia.

Russia says it will join sanctions against Iran

For those who want to criticize the President about everything, we need Russia’s support in containing Ahmadinejad. Keep your eye on the ball! Russia still has a seat on the UN Security Council and they supply many of our allies with much of their oil and natural gas. As Bodie said:

Several months back, Georges, I would have agreed with you, however, today I would appraise that Obama is very deliberate.

Agree on both counts :hatsoff:

Will we survive the "fallout" of this admins shortcomings during a time of certain economic peril is the question. :( This president is doing nothing to bring back the dollar... nothing ! Watch gold soar to $1400.00+ oz.
