Hiring Questions

I know how to use the search button!
I was let go from a company about 9 1/2 years ago for something utterly stupid. I was on the phone with a sales rep from another part of the state (i was in the accounting dept)- and under my breath i stated the word "shit". I think I was distracted or was having a bad day- but I never directed it towards anyone. Anyways the lady told my boss for some frickin reason - and I was brought in to HR about two hours later and fired. Something about code of conduct- but that was a one-time fluke thing- I never had conduct issues before. I look back, and I really enjoyed the company - I haven't had a job with better perks/or pay since. I think they are hiring now. Do you think I should apply- would they even considering hiring me back? I don't think my old boss is there anymore- he might be retired- it doesn't matter. He was actually a decent guy- I think his hands were tied at the time. What is the usual HR policy on this- can they hire me back with me having a clean slate? I guess HR people would know..I don't like where I'm at right now, which is why I ask..TY

I'm not in HR but I know people at various places I've worked who either quit or were fired for (minor) cause and came back years later. I mean, you weren't fired for drugs or violence. And I assume that you had a good work record (except for that one incident) and you've had a good work record since then? If so, sure, apply and use your record since then to speak for you. If it comes up during the interview, calmly explain what happened (security didn't have to drag you out, did they?) and try to move past it.

I assume this is an average everyday company, and not a branch of the Mormon Church or something like that?

Assuming that you admitted to saying the forbidden word,
this company probably just figured that it was in their best interest to release you for fear that this CUNT along with her agenda would have made a major stinkfest out of the issue had they not fired you. If you honestly said the word under your breath as you described, it is the other party with the problem, not you, but what are you going to do :dunno:, the company doesn't want to have to deal with a lawsuit.

What a miserable bitch for doing that to you !

Sorry that you lost your job, good luck in your future endeavors, and always, always beware of activist co workers with an agenda.

This sort of thing just happened to me on Wednesday. The printer wasn't working and I was waiting for a guests paper. The guest is a regular at the hotel. She always comes to talk to us, and knows us all on a fairly personal level. Anyways. After a few minutes the printer finally started working. I said, "well hot damn! It's printing". She laughed. Whatever right? Wrong.

Another lady who I had no idea was there says, "What did you just say?". I didn't realize she was talking to me so she repeats herself. I apologized. She scolded me like I was 5 years old and filed a complaint with the GM. I got bitched at. I must have forgot it was still 1923 and damn is still considered a bad word. Cunt. Mind your own fucking business. *sigh* The things I don't say to keep my job.

Anyways. You should apply. If Michael Vick can get back in the NFL, you can get your job back.

^ Good story chief :hatsoff: ...... I mean, a bad story that ..... well at least you keep your job is good. :D

In 1923 the people would have kept "it" to themselves and went on their merry way, yet today, there's all of these progressive sensitivity training protocols that must be followed because if they're not, well, there's a sleazy scumbag attorney just waiting to file a lawsuit. I'm afraid to say that these stories are simply intended consequences of politically correct motivations to undermine and intimidate the "EVIL corporations." (It's no wonder why the American corporations are picking up and getting the fuck out of hostile business unfriendly America, only further reducing the American GDP, making economic recovery all the tougher).

Today now more than ever, you have to carefully measure EVERY fucking thing that you say in the workplace because it can be construed as a form of harassment against a gay or a female and if that happens, your company - corporation - LLC etc., as it were, will more than likely be facing a frivolous harassment lawsuit and when that happens, or before that happens, the accused gets their walking papers in a jif !

Guys - If you think that it's a good idea to seek potential female companionship within the workplace and you care about keeping your job...... well..... :rubbel:

Give it a shot. The worse that could happen is that they don't hire you.

Conspiracy...
You were fired for cursing?

So, this was a Christian company and no one at this company had ever used language like that?

If not then you were unjustly fired. Find a lawyer.

Unless you were told before you were hired cursing was against company policy then you have the right to sue and collect. :hatsoff:

Wait...nine and a half years ago, and you're just now bringing this up?

Isn't there a space on the application that inquires :

"Have you worked for this company before?"

Just say yes and don't go into any details until the interview.

Try it, you got nothing to lose.
Getting fired for saying shit is a crummy way to lose a job;people are hyper-sensitive.
They need to get over it.

Looking to go where no FreeOnes member has gone before!
Get in touch with their HR and find out if you can be rehired or not. That's the easiest way to find out.

dick hurtz

I should probably read the Board Rules...
It's worth a try and if they say no or don't even interview you, then maybe they are not really that great a company after all.

There are companies that I've either worked at or know people who have worked there for long periods of time, or they left and came back, and the company today sucks compared to the company of ten years ago.

Either way, I feel for you. I just lost my job, but I knew it was coming.

Please reduce your sig, you know it's too big!
maybe they just used the swearing as an excuse to get rid of you for other reasons.

Why would you want to work for a company that obviously doesn't give a shit about their employees?

Getting fired for saying "shit" is pretty ridiculous, IMO. Now, if you would've said "shit" to a customer, that would be grounds for firing. But, you said it to a co-worker. I think that was an insanely ridiculous and unrealistic reason for them to fire you.

Freeones is so HOT I want to have sex with it!
Just apply and see what happens. It might help if you have friends that still work there; especially if they are in management.

It seems to me you were fired for other reasons. Budget cutbacks perhaps? I would try again stating all your experience and positive years. Good luck.
