History of Atari

Nice read with some interesting info about the company that pioneered home based video gaming.

Certainly would be a totally different industry today had it not been for Atari! Some of us are old enough to remember. Not like the punk kids that trash talk you online, they don't even know where the games come from!

Rise of the video game -Sci Fi Channel

I've caught this show a few times. Its interesting as hell. Especially since they usually focus on one aspect or another per show. Very informative as well!

Very interesting, I saw a show on G4 about a year ago. I think it was "Icons" and they did one on Atari that was really good. Games definitely would have been different if it wasn't for Atari. I'm glad that I've been fortunate enough to see the evolution of gaming unlike the kids today who think gaming started with Halo.

No doubt! I grew up right along side the rise of the video game industry. I got on board with nintendo, but played atari at friends houses. 23 years of video gaming history for me!!! I never would have thought back then that we'd have anything like what we've got now for games. They are just sick today! I can't wait to see what the next 23 years have in store for video gaming.

yes indeed;

..back in the days when top gamers resided at the arcades and the bowling alleys..

and games were sold in solid state cartridges that STILL work to this day..

..and somedays i sit and wish i was a kid again.. (and wish for a top down or 3/4 prospective view game i DONT have to kick out a monthly fee for..:crash::cussing:)

I remember even with the NES, SNES, and Genesis when gaming was all about going to the arcades. I spent hours blowing away quarters on Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Killer Instinct, and X-Men (that giant three screened six player arcade). In fact I remember when I had the cartridges and they didn't work we blew into them to make them work, ah those were the days. Not that I'm complaining but it's like they say in order to know where you're going you have to know where you've been. Or at least appreciate it anyway.

Exactly why I'm glad I was a kid when I was and not now!
