I've failed to look at all the evidence on both sides. Because saying so requires no logic at all, I believe there is no doubt at all that HIV is just a harmless retrovirus or doesn't exist. The treatments are what cause the Aids symptoms and deaths.

its a longheld argument. i would say "hiv" is a real virus in terms of science yet "aids" fails the science test. and the argument that people in 3rd world countries are dying of aids is a fail, as they are usually dying of malaria, bad water, and political strife to begin with.

I think this shows a lack of understanding of how HIV/AIDS "works". The whole point is that people with HIV are not killed by it directly. The HIV retrovirus severely deteriorates the body's immune response to other pathogenic infections and it is these subsequent infections that kill the host. While most of us (in the West, at least, where we have access to food and clean water) can fight off many common diseases, if you were to be infected with HIV, your immune system would be unlikely to be able to cope with this additional infection (on top of the HIV) and the pathogen, if it is part of its life cycle to do so, would go on to destroy host cells (that is to say, your body's cells) until your body can no longer function properly and you die.

Hope that explains it, and I hope it puts to bed the frankly insulting idea that HIV/AIDS doesn't even exist! The debate over how much funding research into HIV treatment should receive is a legitimate one. The debate over whether or not HIV exists is ridiculous and sickening.

Oh shit, you're far more confused than I thought. I'd be happy to give you a brief science lesson and explain how the HIV retrovirus works. Honestly, I don't mind. Just ask. It's really quite ingenious and yet one can fully see how it survives and reproduces - the basic requirements for any living thing to go on living (although the extent to which viruses are "living" has been contested, I think general consensus is now that they do. We've just had to update our idea of what a living organism is!).
