Does this METROrail pretty take you to most of the downtown attractions/bars? Headed their next weekend for the first time ever. What are the good DownTown neighborhoods accessible by the railway? I read about Montrose- and no - not headed there..

In a word....no. The metrorail runs from down near Reliant Plaza (where the Astrodome and Reliant Stadium are) past the Medical Center into downtown. Althought there are some bars and restaurants downtown, most of the nighttime action in Houston is out in the Richmond-Westheimer-Galleria area and metrorail doesn't go there. If you're going to a concert, play, Astros or Rockets game, it's a decent way to get around downtown. Otherwise, rent a car or take a cab.

By the way, the best titty bars in the entire world are in Houston, Texas. Classy and plush clubs with gorgeous women. Bring plenty of cash if you go.

As far as the Richmond Strip- what are the north-south cross streets where the concentration of bars are - (Chimney Rock and Sage by the Galleria, let's say?) - or can you go further east of that - I have a big map

on 2nd thought- maybe I will take a gander around Montrose- I know its the alternative crowd, but I'm into seeing new things and meeting interesting people- why not, right?

I wouldn't hesitate to visit Montrose either. There are lots of straight people there as well (would you hesitate to go to San Francisco just because you might run into someone who was gay?).

Down on the Richmond strip, look between Post Oak on the east, Westheimer on the north, Ricmond on the south and west to Hillcroft. That's the center of it but there are bars, clubs and restaurants all the way out to Beltway 8. Houston is so big and spread out that you can find pockets of action in many areas. Another great place to go is the Kemah Boardwalk down in Clear Lake City by the Space Center. Or, you can always go to Galveston and tour the strand.
