How long does it Take you to Drive a Different Car properly??

D-rock

I'm too lazy to set a usertitle.
For standard driving, as long as I could get the seat and all the controls and mirrors in the right place, probably within an hour. If I have to drive the car right to the edge of it's performance then I would think it would probably take me a day or two or maybe even longer.

What he said, I am the Stig.

You're a blonde German girl? Queen of the Nürburgring! Sabine Schmitz! Baby. Honey. Sweetie! Why won't you return my emails, phone calls, telegrams, smoke signals???!!! I even sent you a piece of ear. OK, it wasn't my ear (what do you think, I'm crazy?!), but that was a pretty loving gesture, no? I'm not coming on too strong, am I? :dunno:

To just drive it, pretty quickly, like a couple of hours. To get "comfortable" and familiar with it, a couple of months for me.

Banned?
I could drive any car within a couple of hours. It just comes naturally. Obviously if you are going from a peugeot 106 to a Bugatti it might take a while to totally master it.

A good driver shouldn't take long at all in my opinion.

Take a 15 minute drive from your house and back is usually the formula that gets me used to driving a different car.

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
A lot quicker then it takes me to get used to a new tractor. But at least an hour to get used to typical stuff...maybe a day to get used to get comfortable with pushing it, and a couple to pass the boundaries of common sense and responsibility.

Of course you CAN drive it in no time flat, but I don't think that's the question being asked. How long does it take for the controls, power, breaks, and blind spots to become second nature?

I'm currently car shopping, and this is a great question. Fortunately for me, however, there is a tire company in town that has a track you can book time on. When I test drive vehicles, I go there, and get freaky at 160 kph. If it's moderately comfortable at that speed the first time out, odds are good it will fit like a glove in about a week or two.

I joined ‘cause I was ‘high’!
going from anything larger to smaller very easy. For instance, when I drive a full size pick up or utility van for a week, then go back to a car it's no problem at all. It may take a couple trips around the block upsizing from something small to something large. Driving isn't an issue, it's mostly things like parking and tight turning radius.

This is a Question for guys! Now be honest here. Lets say you're driving whatever car you are now... and someone gave you a brand new & totally DIFFERENT car, for example a Bugatti Veyron. How many hours, or days would it take you to become familiar with driving the car - handling, braking, steering etc? 10 minutes, hours, or days, or weeeks??

About 20 minutes. I take my time finding all the gauges and controls before messing around. Don't forget to check which side of the car the gas tank fills on.:1orglaugh

Yes, I bribed and cheated to get this far
If it's got wheels, I can drive it. :D:hatsoff:

Depends on where I get to practice. Gimme a track with an instructor and I'll do it within half a day.

If left alone, on streets, I'd drive it so bloody carefully people would honk at me for blocking traffic. Those machines are friggin' dangerous if you don't handle them carefully. You've never had power like that in your hands.

On a related note... what if you were stuffed into an F1 car? Top Gear put Hammond in one...

Embarrass myself, I'm sure. I've had, and been in, a lot of high performance street cars, and a few race cars. But in a proper formula car (especially a Formula One car), I'd probably look like one of those ducks trapped in the BP oil spill. Even those dumbed down Indy-style cars that they use for the Andretti Driving Experience are fairly amazing to drive.

What I'd love to do one of these days is get in a track prepped BMW M3 or a C6 Corvette - something I could afford to buy AND tune to my liking. And then spend a day or two getting the best out of the car (and myself), with someone like Tommy Kendall as my instructor, at a good road course like VIR or Road America.

Having a (true) high performance car that you never take to the track would be like having a super model as a girlfriend, but you never take her out in public. What's the point? :dunno:

Usually it's all about getting used to the sensitively of the pedels (mainly the clutch) if you're conditioned to driving a different car.

Beyond that it's just familiarizing yourself with the ergonomics and function locations.

I'd say 10 mins.
