Girls fuck me in my dreams!
last week was a very obscure week for me. a good friend of mine pasted away due to a heroin addiction. he was doing ok for a while (decided to get some help. joined rehab) but relasped after a week and od'ed because of it.

the day of his wake, a mutual friend of ours kid was born. next day was his funeral. two days later, i attended one of my best friends wedding. looking back on it, it was just a crazy week.

i broke up with my girlfriend because of it. she is a recovering alcoholic and ive been drinking unconrollably. i just didnt want her to see me in this state.

anyways. anyone have any good tips?

I really was going to say control yourself man you can do it, but after reading all that it's more then just controlling yourself.

You need some friends who can keep you on a good track. 97% of it's mental thinking and 3% is motivation and help from other people. I don't recommend talking to a shrink, but it may help you. I have had rough times in the past this way.

You could work out or do something that catches your attention to help you stay clean. Get addicted to something that isn't harmful to your body or mind. I don't recommend gaming 24/7 though.

What do you like to do?

If you can't stay motivated you may need to find something new. Go outside your realm of comfort. I just started dancing recently and lets just say it's addictive, but I'm not very good at it. I am very introverted also, so it was really out of my realm of comfort. Baby steps do need to change your life today.

Do you have a degree in anything?

I think you are a gifted person, musical and in sports, you sound like things go to your heart very easy and you can't get over the harder aspects of life as easy as others.

A bit my story of life, too.

And I have an alc problem, too, only I managed to get over it.

It's essential that you find people who know what shit you go through and for whom you don't have to wear a mask. The lowering of social pressure on yourself will do you good.

Maybe a local Alcoholics Anonymious group would be best. When you are in danger of hitting the bottle again, you can call them up and they will help.

If you still got the drums, get them up and start playing again, find some guys who are into music, too and just jam a bit.

I play guitar and sing, and I love to sit with some friends and just sing and play.

Most important:

If you stumble, just get up and walk on. Everybody fails from time to time, but not everybody keeps on keepin on, and I hope you will make it :wave2:

You can't have everything! Where would you put it?!
I know a bunch of reformed characters and they are all different in their approach to cleaning up. The single unifying factor was that they realized they had a problem and they took it upon themselves to clean up. In short they wanted to be sober more than anything else.

Sincerely friend good luck.

Kudos for coming to grips with the reality of your situation.

Drinking in most cases is a habit born out of a lifestyle. The best way to stop drinking is to change your lifestyle and your circle of "friends" (insert enablers).:2 cents:

Everyone will be famous for 15 minutes.
Take a few deep breaths. Realize that you still have a life to live, and are still very important to people. These people would rather have you healthy, sober and aware. So put the cap on the bottle. When all you'd rather do is drink, escape, calm yourself and think about your responsibility. Think about the more-importants. You know what I mean, man?

Just some thoughts. Best wishes, man.

Try to surround yourself with positive people, not ones that are gonna get you to start drinking in one way or another. Avoid situations where it would be awkward for you not to drink. Try engaging in activities that will keep you from having dead time where You Might want to just crack open a beer or take a shot. Focus on the good things that you have, not the bad. Look at the bad experiences you've been through as just experiences in life that already passed and don't dwell on them.

Giggidy giggidy goo!
As has been mentioned it's different for everyone, some things that helped me were,
Find the cause or trigger (for me it was mostly boredom) and find something to work around around that. (A hobby is good but has to be one thats physical and gets you away from situations where drinking is possible)
Surround yourself with positive people, those that understand and support (I no longer talk to a lot of the people that I used to because they dragged me back down)
Will power comes into it too but again you need to recognise the mental triggers and find mental excercises to take your mind off drinking (I found that contemplating the enormity of infinity helped)
Best wishes for your success.

Every time you think about drinking, cover your balls in pig fat and let your dog chew on them for a couple of hours.

If you don't have a dog, then just use a claw hammer.......
