I Believe I Have Genuinely Had An Epiphany

First off, I have something positive that I want to share with everyone, and I believe we all can gain something from it (thanks in advance to those who actually take the time to time to read what I am about to share). Okay, it's not porn...nor is it perverted...but it's a very positive message...and there is something we all can learn from it.

I was resting and reflecting on something a really good friend of mine shared with me the other day, and I believe I actually just had an epiphany of sorts, and I wanted to share it with you!

What you are the world is. And without your transformation, there can be no transformation of the world. - J. Krishnamurti

Thus the world is really what we, or in my case I, make of it through our own attitudes and the energy we exude. If I/we focus on negativity, and have a negative mindset, and exude negative energy...I/we inturn am/are making the world the negative place that I, and most people, do not want it to be.

As a result of my epiphany, I have decided to pledge to do the following:

1. Make positive changes in my life. Changes that will bring about the best, healthy, and positive energy possibile.

2. To be happier, and not carry around so much constant grief and/or negativity.

3. To, while learning from the past, concentrate mainly on the present, and to some degree the future as well, for those are the periods of time that I can actually enact change in, rather than dwelling upon the past, which can not be changed.

4. To spread positive energy & positivity onto others whenever, wherever, and as often as possible...and to strive to inspire others to do do the same.

5. To appreciate the good things in life and in the world as a whole, and not to dwell so much on the negativity. Negativity breeds more negativity, and basically has a snowball effect...and energy really is contagious! Positive energy acts in just the same fashion...except to a good and better end.

6. Focus on myself and my overall health and my happiness, and to be more considerate of the happiness and feelings of others & not be so self-centered. Also to treat my own health condition as seriously as it deserves to be (given my age, I admittedly do not take it as seriously as I clearly should), yet not allow it to lead to a defeatest attitude (as I had immediately following my heart attack).

Through my own, constantly growing/evolving positivity, and through creating positive change in myself and recognizing the power of my own energy & by being accountable for the results/consequences of the energy I exude & the REAL power that flows from it to help make the world into the better place I genuinely want it to be. I will strive to be a part of the solution as opposed to part of the problem (even unwittingly at times). Think about it. Sometimes something as simple as a smile, a hello, a thank you, holding the door for someone...or those 3 magic words (that we sadly too often assume others know, instead of actually telling them)...I LOVE YOU! There are countless simple things that can actually go a long way toward making someone else feel good...and in a way...can even help make the world a better place. Then the person you made feel good will likely take that positive energy that you spread to them & will spread it to other people. Like I said before, positive energy is contagious as well...and it has a snowball effect also! If we REALLY want the world to change for the better...we have to start by changing ourselves for the better!

Ultimately I/we have the direct power to make positive changes within myself/ourselves, and through that change...I/we indirectly have the power to make positive change in the world as a whole.

I, just like everyone else, am a work in progress...and I have a long way to go. Obviously, I still have much to learn, but I'm finally showing a willingness to do so, and I actually believe I am starting to gain some real understanding. And that's definitely a GOOD thing!

Starting today, I am going to start trying to be as positive and spread as much positivity as I possibly can & to avoid negativity as much as possible as well...and I would encourage you all to do the same! I for one, given my health situation, have little option than to follow this path...because the opposite will have nothing less than an undesired effect...namely my untimely death...and I for one do not want that obviously. There are plenty of lame ways to die...but few are as lame as giving one's own self a heart attack by getting angry and overly emotional about something that is likely rather silly upon calm reflection! As such, I must strive to keep my emotions in check as I concentrate on remaining positive!

That being said, I wish you all a wonderful Monday and a fantastic week ahead. Lets all go out there and make the day the best it can possibly be...not only for us...but for others as well! Remember, sometimes something as "simple" as a smile, politeness, and even that you love and appreciate them can actually go a long way!:)

This is a lot easier said then done. But at least you're taking the first step and for that you should be proud. I should probably take this advice as seriously as you are, but I'm weak. It's easier to be down than up. Ya heard?

That's a good outlook to have. It's far from the first time I've heard that reasoning, so I've definitely seen it in the world. The problem is that there is too much apathy in the world. If more people practiced positivity, as cliché as it sounds, the world would be a better place.

Sounds like a good Life Mission Statement there JB :)

Life is about choices...we make them every day. I always strive to do the next "right thing". :hatsoff:

i think people are self destructive by nature. and i know im more on that side myself. i have a darker mindset regarding everyone except for the people i actually love.

personally, i prefer people to leave me alone and not try to spread their chippiness on me. its just dumb when they do. its always so fucking fake it makes me sick. i take care of my loved ones and if there's anything left over, myself. but i dont care about myself. actually, you can say i hate myself, who knows, maybe its genetic. i find strength from my girl alone really and i prefer it that way. shes all i need to keep going.

but i dont try to drag other people into it. if they give me shit, ill have a go at them. sometimes a little quicker than it need be. ive held it in for so long, now i just cant help it. but i also believe in certain things like worrying does nothing. its not really being positive but more like no wasting time fucking with shit that you have no power over.

i guess im more of a realist. but yeah, if everyone was more positive, things would be different. it will never happen though but there is a huge power there. of course, i believe in qi and your mental state does affect the world around you.

modern day society just wont allow it.

thats why monks go off into the fucking mountains dude.

Great way to live JBS, the one thing I will say is that there are some people that are negative no matter what you do. Just remember that it is them not you.

Good for you Jon. Seriously, good for you.

If you want to explore this further, then I seriously recommend the following reading material:

The Places That Scare You & From Fear to Fearlessness by Pema Chodron
Awakening the Buddha Within by Lama Surya Das

I recommend these not to encourage you to follow the Buddhist faith, but because they explore in great detail, and in a very accessible manner, the subjects you posted about. 'The Places That Scare You' is superb. 'Awakening' is almost a 'step-by-step' guide to achieving what you wrote about. 'From Fear' is a very deep, but sound, exploration of the motives and actions/reactions that shape us, define us and cause us to make the choices we make, good and bad.

Check them out. I'm sure they will help you in your quest.

Thanks for your insights. As I am VERY serious in my decision to make these changes in me, I just ordered the books that you suggested I turn to from Amazon and I should be getting them early next week.

Now, as I've mentioned before on here and elsewhere, I gradually became turned off by organized religion. However, in the Ethics course I took in college (which was really a philosophy course), we went over all of the major religions of the world to some degree (at least addressing the major tenets of each)...and, would you believe, the religion that I found the most attractive BY FAR was Buddhism! I'm "technically" a "non-practicing" Christian...but I have actually considered converting to Buddhism when and if I re-enter the world of organized religion. So yeah, Buddhism is a REAL possibility in my future.

That's definitely one of the hardest things to get past. Sadly, there are some people who are just so genuinely miserable, that no ammount of kindness directed toward them will change that. I just have to strive to now allow them to get me down, or to disuade me from doing what is right...as opposed to feeding into the negativity.

That's a good outlook to have. It's far from the first time I've heard that reasoning, so I've definitely seen it in the world. The problem is that there is too much apathy in the world. If more people practiced positivity, as cliché as it sounds, the world would be a better place.
Exactly!!!! Though I have always wanted the world to be a better place...and often wondered why it wasn't...I have come to realize that I have often unwittingly been part of the problem...as opposed to part of the solution, as I have always wanted to be. As with any movement, it starts with the actions of one, or a few, and then others follow suit. Even if it doesn't work on a large scale as I would hope it would...my life, and the lives of those whom I come into contact with, will be so much happier and more fulfilling! I decided I want to be part of the solution...instead of part of the problem.

This is a lot easier said then done. But at least you're taking the first step and for that you should be proud. I should probably take this advice as seriously as you are, but I'm weak. It's easier to be down than up. Ya heard?
I know it's not going to be easy (anything really fulfilling rarely ever is) & I've only begun to take the initial steps toward a major transformation and awakening in myself. Believe it or not, I tried to have a very positive mindset all day today...and I checked my blood pressure (even before I took my meds for the day), and it was a good 20 points lower than it had been running. Today it was 127/81!!!!!!! So, though that was only one day, and only 2 readings...that seemed to be some empirical evidence that there really is something (even biological) to positive thinking and positive energy!

I once had an epiphany when I decided not to fart as much.

Way to make me feel inadequate.
How did your "epiphany" work out? Ha ha ha!

Anyway guys, thanks for all of the input, feedback, and encouragement that you have given so far. Like I said, I know this will not be easy (especially given all of the years of cynacism, skepticism, getting angry at the drop of a hat, and negative mindedness that I have put in so far), but I am actually very determined to see this through and make the changes in me to see it becomes a reality. Given my health situation, at a fairly young age, it could really be a matter of life or death in my case.

I wish you the best. However a word of warning. Don't blind yourself to reality on you quest for a positive outlook. That can be as unhealthy as a what you were going through before. The world isn't a good place. I wish dearly with it was. What should be taken from that is that you should do good and try to be good DESPITE that and fight against that because it's the right thing to do.

Also if you want to do good and change the world for the better more than outlooks and happy feeling, while good themselves, are going to be needed. While that is nice to give to people sometimes substantive changes that one does for the better will have more impact. Maybe for those people that seem unhappy no matter what you should not only have a positive outlook for them but if reasonable you should try to change the actual reason they are unhappy in the first place. Trying to do your part to eliminating the reasons for the world being bad is even better than just having a positive attitude though it.

Happy thoughts and positive outlook can be easy. Going out of your way to help others is though, even when done on a reasonable level. Often it takes sacrifices, hard work, struggling, and dedication. That might seem bad, but when you truly help somebody out. When you try to make the world a better place though action often that can help heal the soul and make you feel right more than just wishful thinking and happy thoughts can. It can also show you love somebody as much as worlds can.

The world isn't a good place. That's why people should try to make it better. Maybe you, me, and every other person on this world will never be able to change that, but on the journey to try maybe people can find their way and salvation can be obtained and one can become the person they want to be. Plus, people thinking it's impossible to make the world a good place is and unacceptable answer to me.

I'm also happy to hear you don't want to be a part of the world's problems. Doing good and not hurting others is a part of that. It's not always easy. I know a lot of people, a lot of otherwise good people, that rationalize things they do that might hurt others as a way to justify it or to alleviate their own guilt. To be honest and truthfully and looking at myself there has been times in my life where I've even fallen to rationalization when it's been convenient to do, because, sadly, it was easier than doing the right thing. I try to live my life so I never do that.

What you are the world is. And without your transformation, there can be no transformation of the world. - J. Krishnamurti

When I shared this information with you the other day, I was remiss in not actually mentioning the name of the very special individual who actually turned me onto this incredibly positive way of thinking. That person was none other than Nikki Nova herself. I understand that this is essentially a porn site....and I get that, but I genuinely find Nikki to be an incredible person and spirit, and I felt I owed it to her to give her the credit she so richly deserves.

Nikki is also the person who brought this incredibly powerful truth to my attention:

Energy is contagious

Like I said earlier, I know I have a long journey ahead of me...and I will actually have to work on re-wiring my subconscious mind before actually tackling the issues of my conscious mind (to do otherwise would be like putting the cart before the horse...and likely dooming myself to failure)

One EXCELLENT book that Nikki brought to my attention (and has publicly praised on many occasions) to that end is:

"THE BIOLOGY of BELIEF: Unleashing the Power of Consciousness, Matter and Miracles."
By Bruce H. Lipton, Ph.D.

I have read this book myself already, as well as listened to the audio version...and I can attest to the fact that it is both an excellent and powerful book!

Like I said earlier, I have a lot of work ahead of me, and the things that are worthwhile in life are rarely easy to attain...But, I am actually FINALLY making the effort to make positive changes in my life...AND, I have one VERY special person to thank for turning me on to this positive way of thinking...and that person is, like I also said, none other Nikki Nova! Like I said before, she is a VERY SPECIAL person!

Finally, I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to provide me with positive feedback. I genuinely appreciate it & it is very cool of those of you who have done so. I hope everyone is having an excellent week & that your weekends are even better!

I have developed a new stance on my life, too, in the last years

Ever morning I sweep the boardwalk in front of the house I have an appartment in, and in wintertime, I make sure that there is no snow hindering the safety of especially the 93-year-old lady upstairs.

I pick up trash on the streets and offer a hand to people.

You could say it is like the concept of Karma. If you do good things, eventually good things come back to you

What's an epiff .. epiph .. piff ... epiphany???? :D jk

Seriously. Good for you. I try and follow something similar to what Supa said. Karma. "What goes around comes around". The more postive you are, the more positive things will come to you. Whether it's in this life or the next.

Basically, I prefer to have a laugh than be angry or stressed. :2 cents:

So you are doing it in order to get something back? I guess it doesn't matter but shouldn't people do good deeds just because they want to be nice, rather than some perceived future reward?

Anyway more importantly, do you have any pics of your 93 year old neighbour?
