I think the biggest complaint about the F-22 is that it isn't cost efficient. It performs very well, but you when you can get reasonably close to it's performance for much less cost it mitigates it usefulness to every country that doesn't have infinite resources, which is all of them.

Really? That's the complaint? I thought it was a performance issue....I believe Bill Maher commented that it couldn't fly in the rain and I just figured that was the well known problem or something.

In PCB, the Airmen I talked to made it seem like the F-22 made the F15 into a relic. It's good to know that's not the case. Funny thing is, none of 'em were captains, they were all maintenance and munition loaders. I don't even think they worked on the F-22. I wonder why all the hype?

Ace Bandage

The one and only.
Golden guns. One shot kill every time.

Next question.

Crazy4theBrat

Oh no, the old titles are back!
A lot would depend on the location and terrain of the country, as well as the location of the country's enemies. If you're basically an island like Great Brittain, a strong navy would be important. If you're sitting out in the desert with nothing but a bunch of insane camel jockeys, tanks, helicopters, and a huge fleet of drones would be pretty nice. It all depends.

I'm sure all the glitches for the most part have been worked out of the system.
The truth is the F-22 is a necessary aircraft to replace the F-15s which are getting long in tooth. I just don't see the AF going for the F-35.
On another note a decision was being being made whether the B-1 bomber is needed. I have a feeling it'll be axed from the inventory as the B-52 still is the premiere heavy bomber and the B-2 has been upgraded to take the new 30,000 bunker buster.

I'd arm the Scottish army with Claymores and empty Irn Bru bottles. no cunt would stand a chance against us!

......oh that type of Claymore. Not the one that says "this side towards enemy".:D

Embryoyo

My hand is my best friend!
I'd arm that mothafucka with the best alcohol money could buy, and be more neutral than Canada. Fuck off, let us drink.

You don't spend a cent of your own. You go to the U.S. and say "Help me I'm anti-Communist!" They will give you small arms, artillery, tanks, ships & aircraft. The USAF will train your pilots. The USMC will train your special forces & snipers. The CIA will train your death sq... excuse me, I mean counter espionage forces, and in some eras even assassinate your enemies for you. It's been done this way for over 80 years in Central America, Caribbean, South America, Asia and Africa so I know it will work.

I wish I could say this is all a joke, but sadly it's not.

So your a Senator, Congressman, ex CIA......? Or ya just believe everything you hear? The United States is sooooooo fucking evil. They've never done anything good for this planet or the people that live on it. They're so fuckin nosey, all they ever want to do is overthrow despots and dictators. I fucking hate those freedom loving bastards!

I knew the world hates us. Its just strange seeing it here in writing on a porn site. :dunno:

When I was down at Tyndall, the common sentiment was the the F-22 would most likely be the last manned fighter built for the the AF. It was repeated enough that I'm sure it was jargon that was pounded into all the Airmen's heads, but it's an interesting, almost scary thought.

I know the Predators and Reapers don't have anywhere near the capabilities of the F-22s or F-15s but I suppose that's a matter of time?

Ummm, it's kind of true, no? South America, Afghanistan, Africa? Los Pepes? Hell, we supported the South Vietnamese with weapons and training before we fought the war along side 'em. Do you really think Reagan Doctrine is a thing of the past? Hell, now we've expanded it to aid allies in the "War on Terror". Look how much aid and weapons we give to places like Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

Good or bad, right or wrong, it's hard to deny.

I do realize it. But its not like we've never done or do anything good or worthwhile. I never hear anybody talking about those things around here. I know this country isn't perfect, not even close. And its our own fault. I just get tired of being the only ones who seem to get singled out. And I can count on one hand the number of Americans who defend the country when they see something derogatory written about us.

I don't know...I think a lot of us don't feel the need to counter criticism with historical high notes because it tends to come off as justification. It reminds me of the whole "We saved your ass in WWII" thing that used to be said any time a European voiced a complaint.

If somebody bitches about our involvement in Iraq, it does no good to cry out, "Oh yeah, well if it wasn't for America, there'd be no South Korea!" The same way you can't beat your wife and then defend it by saying, "Hey, I bought her a brand new car for her birthday!"

I understand your point and I guess we do run the risk of forgetting some of the positive things we've been involved in (I doubt anybody here can name a soldier killed during the Battle of Mogadishu offhand) but I think for a long, long time, a lot of us Americans were pretending that good was all we've been doing. The Sean Hannity mentality is still alive and well in millions of Americans and I don't see how progress can be made when we don't feel that we have anything to improve upon.

I was talking more along the lines of how a high level elected official or high ranking military one would look at it, not how the actual pilots or sometimes even the mechanics would. They would probably want the best there is no matter what without looking at the outside concerns as much.

Why save the world, when you can rule it?
OK people, I've been away for a while, so this will be a long reply. Sorry.
I'm gonna be away for a few days as well, so expect me to repeat this feat of multi-replying in about 3/4 days.

I am a nerd, SIR! But I have a wife, and she's out of town tonite! I just don't have a life! So that's why I'm on Freeones. Trust, I get pussy on a regular! Point, Match, Serve, Genius!

You're still a nerd. I have a fiance and a life. I win. Stop being so cocky :p

God damn you love them Jews! :D

Fuck the 5.56, the Army just dropped any plans for the FN SCAR in 5.56, but not in 7.62 Nato. Finally they're using their heads.

The Tavor...meh.

So you think we should use 7.62 instead of 5.56? Despite the fact that drugged up Talibannies have been known to continue fighting even with both legs blown off?
You can laugh at the Tavor all you like, but it doesn't have the poor reliability reputation of the M4/M16 and 5.56 when fired out of a real 20" barrel like almost everything EXCEPT the M4 will do more damage - it was DESIGNED to be fired from a 20" barrel, not the M4s 14.5" barrel.

The best defense against an opponents navy in a situation like this is not a huge navy of your own but having a bunch of cruse missiles. It almost scary to think of how billion dollar ships can go down with a few long range missiles that the ships you strike can't even see when they were fired from.

It would be the same with air defense also. A smallish but reasonably funded country that just worried about defense and didn't care about police actions or involving itself with the rest of the world could make do with a reasonable air force and a bunch of anti aircraft missile batteries.

I would make sure every citizen had the right to arm themselves. It would crate a nightmare scenario for any invading force if almost everybody in the country could take shots at them when the opportunity arose. It would be magnified it you could take away any air support for any opposing force. Even things like tanks and other heavy armored vehicles have weaknesses like their severe dependency on fuel, the fact don't go over terrain as well as some people like to believe, and the fact the people inside of them still are human and have to sleep and do other things.

You need infantry. Infantry are essential. Sorry. :)

I'd buy one nuke off of some bitter ex-Russian KGB. Arm it, place it at the centre of the meagre island on which I and the rest of the population live, set up a perimeter so that no one could get out and just sit back and enjoy my US/UN funded subsidies and aid.

Then under threats of detonation I would enslave the entire local indigenous population and force them into work camps so that I and the four other people who I allow "citizen status" - without branding their foreheads "SLAVE" as I do with the rest of the pigs who I work to exhaustion, starvation and death - can live in comfort, stability and decadence in my gigantic palace.

You worry me. You know that? Is your surname "Bush"?

Well if I had to include a classic multi purpose jet aircraft it would be the F-4 Phantom.

F4 Phantom? Are you insane? It's not maneuvarable, unless you update the engines it's not fuel efficient, it doesn't have supercruise and perhaps worst of all, it can't take off from rough airstrips.
Better to get a Gripen for multi-role, with maybe an A10 or SU25 for ground attack.

I'm sure all the glitches for the most part have been worked out of the system.
The truth is the F-22 is a necessary aircraft to replace the F-15s which are getting long in tooth. I just don't see the AF going for the F-35.

F22 is NOT necessary. Upgrades to the F15 and F16 keep them competitive. What is necessary is a USAF aircraft (other than A10 which can take off and land from rough landing strips, as runways are often the first target in an attack. And you've got to be prepared for the enemy to penetrate your defenses, because war doesn't go as it goes in the wargames. Note that when the usaf simulates aggressors in red flag it doesn't allow the use of AWACS. Even the SWEDES have AWACS these days, to train to face opponents under red force rules who fly like some old Soviet controlled nation without use of AWACS is NOT smart.
Not only does F22 cost more than it's own weight in gold (which quickly becomes useless the moment somebody with a mortar puts a crater in F22s runway because it can't take off from rough runways) but it can't pull and hold 6Gs indefinately while subsonic - like Typhoon. Nor can it pull 6Gs supersonic. Typhoon can.
F22 uses 20mm ammo - therefore useless to strafe tanks and in any case such a poor performer against modern aircraft that the rest of the world has upgraded to heavier calibres.
Not only that but Su27 variants with Irbis radar will detect an F22 at a range only 5km shorter than the F22 will detect THEM. Since the F22 will be supercruising, the F22 pilots reactions won't enable him to fire the missile at the Su BEFORE his F22 enters detection range.
Stealth isn't unbeatable - stealth aircraft have ALREADY been shot down.
In addition, MiG29 and Su27 variants are already capable (in the right hands) of evading AMRAAMs - meaning that what is REALLY necessary is new missiles.
As for F35 - the fact that it directs two columns of thrust straight downwards will rip apart roads, bits of which will then be ingested into the engine. The result is that Gripen can take off from more roads than F35. And Gripen can supercruise. F35 can't. Lockheed martins statements about F22 and F35 can't be trusted - they claimed F35 was cheaper than Gripen (a blatant phallacy).
If F22 WAS as good as they say it is it would have flown over Iraq. Lets not forget how good they said Stryker, Abrams and Bradley were. The US military lies.
As for the B1 bomber. No. Not a chance and never. That does almost nothing that B52 can't do. Spending the money used to make B1 on B52s and cruise missiles to fire from them would have been a FAR smarter investment.

I'd arm the Scottish army with Claymores and empty Irn Bru bottles. no cunt would stand a chance against us!

You just reminded me of an ex. I'm going to sit in a corner and cry now.

I wish I could say this is all a joke, but sadly it's not.

You have a point, but then it wouldn't really be YOUR country anymore, would it? It would be the property of the US.

Thanks for reading this novel people :)

I don't see where I ever indicated that's not the case.

I didn't see any mention of infantry anywhere.
I probably jus' missed it from replying to so many messages at once, so sorry about the misunderstanding old bean :)
