I'm Thinking of Voting Republican

Straight Shooter

1,000 posts to go for my own user title!
I live in IL and we have a governors race between the incumbent Pat Quinn(D) and his challenger Bruce Rauner(R). The IL economy hasn't been all that great under Quinn, who took over after Blagojevich was put in jail, and if I had to vote today I'd say that I'm leaning towards voting for Rauner. I'm a progressive but I'm not against voting for a conservative especially if I really believe that he could do a better job. Rauner is a businessman, similar to Romney as both are private equity guys, and I think he might be the change we need in this state

Ice I'm from Chicago also, "Back of the Yards", and I know what you mean with the corrupt Chicago Daley Machine pulling the wool over people eyes hijacking the Democrat party in Illinois.

But I live in Wisconsin now, but the GOP Gov here needs to go as he is nothing but a Koch Sucker ass hat that needs someone beside me to shoot his punk racist ass.

On the other hand Ice I will help you.

Will drive to Chicago and change my tags in my parents address before the election and vote with you :)

The Illinois tags would look good up here and I can take the Sox hat out of my back window.

I can understand what you think and are probably doing at voting day. In my hometown, we have a similar situation:

Before I describe my city's problems... We see that in other cities or districts, too, doesn't matter WHAT party is in charge.

Here, the Social Democrats had the city for maybe forty years, with short breaks of one term with the Christian Democrats. If one party can get settled in, it is way too tempting to get your friends in the places which help you make things happen. And it sure doesn't hurt if everyone gets his share of the money to be made.

This has to be broken up, for the sake of the country, and if I have to vote for the conservatives (in my case), to help my country, I will not think twice.

As we have all seen, time and time again, it seems to make very little difference from which of the two parties a politician comes from. While Bush was president, arguably one of the most conservative presidents in recent years) the abortion clinics didn't get shut down, welfare still got plenty of money, porn still proliferated through the internet, Gay marriage became legal for the first time in the US in the state of Massachusetts, and it was enforced that prayer would not be allowed in schools.
And... as much as i was hopeful and really believed in Obama and his promises.... monthly checks for welfare recipients on housing have been reduced, porn stars are having their bank accounts closed because of a government program directing banks to do this, the richest men in the world are MUCH richer than they were even through the recession, Guantanamo is still going, the government is intruding into peoples privacy more than ever, and it still is illegal to smoke weed in 48 states.

Good luck making a choice, as if it makes any difference ...

wow what a negative post I just made.

So true and not a negative post,

Reason why I can't get people on here getting so emotional over a party with a Mod from France that don't live here,

That's right Georges :). Get a life Bozo!

Hi Bozo Mod Georges!

What do these three have to do with France?

Yeah, yeah.

Loser in France concern about American politics

Unless you are a John Burke Society card member in France.

I have voted for and will continue to vote for moderate republicans, the only problem is finding them on the ballot.

Even thought I consider that, in general, Dems are a much lesser evil than Reps, I can agree that, in some cases, a good Republican can be better than a bad Democrat.

Agreed and certainly like to see how long the list of exceptions was. Good is usually better than bad unless bad is good enough to be better.

Anybody who thinks one party has good people and the other is chalked full'a evil is a nincompoop. Grifters, scammers, users, deceivers no matter whether R or D with very few exceptions.

Hollande is not extreme Left. His politics makes him Center-Left, much less a leftist than what he pretended to be during his 2012 campaign.
Mélenchon is extreme-left

This guy is a real extreme-Left communist, that should never, under any circumstances, be elected.

And Marine Lepen, well, it's complicated : She much more Left than Hollande about the economy but she's also much more Right than Sarkozy about immigration and social issus (such as gay marriage, abortion, steam cell research, end of life care, etc...).

I don't live in France so I didn't know. If you could choose between Hollande, Le Pen, and Sarkozy who would be best? Completely off the record.

Johan, do you find yourself more as a moderate? Whether left or right, moderate is moderate and moderates are reasonable. I don't care for Sarah Palin any more than Al Sharpton. Don't both appeal to the lowest common denominator of both sides? Anyone who has read a book other than The Bible might make a better decision either way.

Conspiracy...
With the current election system, any vote other than Republican or Democrat is wasted vote.
It is sad but it's the harsh reality of US politics

The same lie to keep people voting for people who do nothing for the people.

Will you guys be right vs left in 2017? One extreme is as bad as the other in my book.

America needs to be a Constitutional Republic again.

America needs to be a Constitutional Republic again.

We need non-reptilian candidates. Ron Paul(right) and Dennis Kucinich(left) were two of the more honest politicians out there. When they ran for President they end up pulling up the rear. Bad behavior and effective deception is rewarded too much in politics here. You are right for supporting third party but Johan also had a point about it also. I hope you win out and I bet Johan hopes things change too. The left must be disappointed in Obama for being Bush-lite. Almost sounds like a beer summit for the sake of appearances.

So Xenophobic making the Irishman drink Odoul's. Haven't we grown past that in America?
