Eleven years into the 21st century, a new poll indicates there are a lot of Mississippi Republicans still living in the past.
A survey conducted last month shows 46% of GOP voters in the state believe interracial marriage should be illegal - a plurality of the people questioned.
Forty percent felt mixed-race weddings should remain legal, while 14% said they were not sure in the survey conducted by Public Policy Polling of Raleigh, N.C.
The poll, conducted between March 24 and 27, showed 76% of the respondents considered themselves somewhat or very conservative.
And it reflected the views of older Mississippi residents: 68% of the respondents were age 46 or older. The polls had a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9%.
Interracial marriage in Mississippi became legal in 1967 after a U.S. Supreme Court ruling forced the state to change its laws.

So... 46% (less than half) of 76% (three quarters) of Mississippi? What kind of "results" are these? Where is the actual percentage of Mississippians who said this, and what percentage of them were old farts? And how many total were polled? I smell spin.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that equal about 30-35% of the whole?

Dr. Martin Luther King had a dream. I hope his dream is fulfilled someday. Change moves slowly in "the bible belt" of the U.S.A. Social media, like Facebook, can effect change by calling out hate-filled speach. I've made it known to family and friends that I don't appreciate hate-filled emails and I do not forward them. Since then, I don't get that junk in my inbox any more. Dr. Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy had a good thing goin' back in the day before they were both killed. It is up to all of us to keep the dream alive.

Was this survey conducted in all the states or just southern ones? What percentage of the people polled were non-white? And what was the purpose of it, slow news day?

No, it says that they only did it in Mississippi. Surprisingly, I read somewhere that Mississippi was among the top 10 states that had a rapidly growing interracial marriage rate. Don't quote me though because I can't remember where I read that at. Also, considering that it is Mississippi and they specifically said "conservative" voters, I am gonna assume that less than 5% of them were non white.

I agree but to a lesser extent.
I think there should be a course in college , even high school for men ( and women too, but mostly men) in the danger and precautions of marraige 2011 style, especially in the states.
too many men these days just go all out with the first women thats lets them in, falls in loved blindly , marries her then reality sets in, but its too late.
divorce is expensive.......and if you have children forget it.
and even if you don't divorce being trapped with the wrong person is no way to live.
yep , some men get lucky and get with a good woman, but the majority don't then live a life of regret.
I really believe most men today get married for fear of being alone and they don't..........

Of course they don't believe in interracial marriages in Mississippi. How are you supposed to convince paw that the black woman you are marrying is your cousin?
