Bad idea or not, I agree. Marriage is a contact between two adults. The state should have no say in the matter other than to allow the courts to enforce the stipulations of said contracts.
Besides, the idea of outlawing mixed marriage is ridiculous. Image the headache there'd be if Puerto Ricans started marrying each other!

Argh! See, this is what I'm talking about. Am I the only one who has noticed that the MAJORITY of Mississippi Republicans are FOR interracial marriage, and only a third of the whole state is against it? That's still a large chunk of dumbasses, but this is totally misleading.

They polled 400 people. So 46% of 76% of 400 = 140 people total who said it should be illegal.

The remaining balance doesn't mean necessarily 'for' per se. They could still be against it but just not think it should be illegal. Like infidelity for example. I doubt a majority of people wouldn't think it ought to be illegal but that same majority could still think it wrong or be against it.

Furthermore, what they really mean is that they are against black men marrying white women! The way it has been in the south, even back in the days of slavery, has been that it is perfectly fine for white men to fuck black women (even "forcibly" back in the days of slavery), so long as you never acknowledge it and/or publicize it! Look at Strom Thrumond....Hell he was Mr. Segregation, and he even fathered a black child (to the daughter of one of his family's servants....can you spell "FORCED"?)....how did he "get away with it"? He never publicly acknowledged it! It was a loosely guarded secret in South Carolina, but since he didn't "advertise" it, he got a pass. Had he advertised it and or publicly acknowledged it...his political career would have been over.
Bottom line, just like the rest of the world, Mississippi and the rest of the southern United States, is full of hypocrites! Also, like I said, what they REALLY have a problem with is black men marrying white women! White men marrying black women, though probably not publicly embraced, would not engender much "anger".
