But honestly, why the blindness when it comes to Israel? They just elected a government, that threatens with the depravation of citizenship of all non-jewish Israelites. They believe in the divine state and that only Jews should be allowed to live there. That persians, christians, arabs (and others before them) have lived on that land, is not even recognized. As some fanatic Arabs deny the existence (or the right to such) of the state of Israel, Israel does the some with Palestine. And Israel still occupies land that originally belonged to its neighboring countries. Sorry, but no other country in the world would get away with that.
Israel is no less dangerous. They're just under the protection of the US and most of the EU, so they don't have to worry about a thing they do, and they're internationally accepted. But the last war Israel fought was even condemned by otherwise pro-Israelian countries like Germany.

Israel allows and accepts for immigration shitloads of non-Jews, and always has. Arabs, Persians, and other Muslims are citizens with equal rights, as well as many thousands of Christians.

I don't know what media your talking about.I have heard many many times in the news about the issue of the Iranians having more than the neccessary equipment for a civilian nuke program.
And on the North Korean missile test just this morning I heard on CBS news that while the test seemed to be a failure as vehicle to put satellite up as the rocket never achieved orbit it did go twice as far as any previous rocket from them which CBS said had implications as possible nuclear weapon delivery system.Sounds like they reported exactly what you say they don't.

I'm with Friday here. I don't know what you're talking about. All the media I've seen have talked about how Iran and North Korea's actions are threatening. So the media don't use specific terms, who cares?

well I do remember Bush giving a speech about the danger of Iran (he does indeed lack an elementary physics background), and then like two days later his own investigation team filed a report that said Iran posed no nuclear threat and you didn't hear anything about it on any of the major news networks.

That report said in 2003, Iran stopped working on the weapon itself. Hmmm, maybe the invasion of Iraq had something to do with that?

I love how people like to play games on this stuff, to get things to fit their argument. Iran merely switched to enriching uranium to weapons grade.

The question is, do they have both now? Or did they just change focus and will come back to the weapons design later?

The media now does not need to have any experts on their books now because the media has become nothing other than an entertainment porgram. Just look at every single news broadcast or 24 hour news station, they're filled with good looking anchors who spew out so many diluted facts to suit their audiences understanding or what they believe is their audience's understanding.

The only real experts who seem to be allowed onto news programs nowadays are millitary experts, well, thats all well and good there are two wars being waged, and an "expert" in military affairs usually are as entertaining as they are knowledgable, why? Because war's are entertaining no matter how many people are dying, my case in point the continued repetition of those images from 03 when the first bombs hit Baghdad.

Now, lets take that military guy out of the picture and replace him with a professor of Theoretical Physics for example (I'm not sure why, but I'm just going to run with it), he starts to talk about M-theory, membranes etc, to some that might be interesting, I certainly would find it intersting but, it requires far to much explanation and that in no way coincides with how a modern new's room is run. Quick little snippets of information are all that are given, thats is why these "experts" are never actually experts, they may have some knowledge of what they are talking about maybe they've read a one page briefing, but thats all and in that context thet have no right to be on the news discussing it. But they are because usually they are semi-good looking and are charismatic enough to be interviewed by the blond haired woman and the dark haired guy.

Stop watching the news I would say, the news found on the internet in my opinion is far more in depth and comprehensive in their coverage, mainly because they dont have so many guidlines to follow. Just try to stay away from the sites that bang on about the new world order and the illuminati .

Anyway, you won't hear "weapons grade" on the news because it would scare the fucking shit out of 99% of the brainless, panic-ridden morons that watch TV to get their information about the world. It might seem silly, but we (as country) are over-reactive panic bombs that go off with the ease of hair triggers.

Remember a few years back when the NE had that massive power outage that lasted for a few days? Remember how many people were convinced that it was another terrorist attack and how many people hurried to the store to stock up on supplies, as if the world was about to come to an end? All of that, just because the fucking power went out.

Now, just imagine what would happen if those same panic-ridden morons turned on the TV and heard some news caster say, "North Korea is currently in the process of accumulating massive amounts of weapons grade uranium..."

i was following the rocket launch live as it happened. since i do not have the resources to track it myself, i relied on a couple of tv news stations. my first question was: was it successful? within a reasonable time i heard the first report that it was unsuccessful in that it never reached orbit and fell into the ocean. maybe you were watching a different channel. NORAD came out with a press release announcing the failure that was widely reported. the internet is now full of reports of that failure so i don't know what you are talking about.

escape velocity, a concept i learned in high school, is frequently cited in stories about the space shuttle and cape canaveral launchings so again i'm not sure what you are talking about.

i was around twenty years ago and honestly i have no idea what you are talking about here when you say "twenty plus years ago, that would not be accepted in US journalism". care to provide some proof? what would have been the punishment? who would have not handed it out? since physics is your field, let's see some evidence before making wild claims like that.

weapons grade uranium is another term that i've heard mentioned frequently in following nuclear activities. again, i have no idea what you are talking about.

let's face facts: journalism is a low paid profession (except for tv anchors in big markets) and the academic requirements are minimal compared to other fields. of course not all journalists are expected to be subject matter specialists so that is why their job is to interview others with more knowledge, which is standard practice. it's admirable, i guess, for you to have lofty expectations for journalists but i believe you are being unfair and unreasonable at the same time.
