I am a tool because I stated facts that fords are reliable......

My first car:

1971 Ford Torino 500,70,000miles on it when I bought it-in 1992;lasted to 300,000 miles and change.

My current car:

1992 Ford Mustang LX,200,000 miles and counting.Still has the original clutch.

Sounds reliable to me.......

Don't forget their slogan from not-too-long-ago:

Built Ford Tough.

It isn't just the trucks.....

well atleast you manned up and admitted you were full of shit about owning a bunch of cars and here i was thinking you were a typical dickless ford owner stereotype good on you!

I'm so great I'm jelous of myself.
Ford Europe produces some excellent cars which have been very well received by the motoring press.

Unfortunately, the middle market is being squeezed so that people are either trying to save a few £ by buying an economy brand like Skoda, Kia etc or making the perceived move upmarket into a VW, BMW or Audi. The other middle market brands (like Vauxhall/Opel, Renault etc) are also finding life hard.

At the moment it doesn't seem to matter how good the cars are (there are very few really bad cars out there anyway), it's all about the brand. The Ford brand isn't particularly strong at the moment.

There have always been environmental restrains, it's just that output emission regulation is up to the states to decide. California is no pushover, let me tell you.

Are you suggesting that the emission criteria be federalized ?
If that happens, they'll (da feds) will have us all driving

more road kill for LISA

"Are you suggesting that the emission criteria be federalized ?"

Not at all. What I'm suggesting is that the onus should also be on the manufacturers at the point of manufacture. Dealing with the aftermath/the consequences is the lazy/easy way out. And the price difference should be negligible - and the car producers know it :2 cents:

careful, people will soon call you a socialist.

i think it is interesting that chrysler will soon be a fiat subsidiary, and i wonder what impact it will have on cars produced domestically. many cars that are very efficient elsewhere have american release models that are less efficient - take the smart car, for example. it has about half the fuel efficiency in america then it does in the model released to the rest of the world.

can americans get over their need for horsepower and size enough to start buying actually efficient cars?

They give me 500+ HP with torque to match, and 30+ MPG and I'm all for it. It can be done.

yup. no question it can be done. but how about 100 HP and 75+ MPG? that's doable too, and we'd all use a lot less fuel...

your post proves a point really. i mean no disrespect, honestly! but really, why do we need 500 HP? as long as the car can get up to speed in a reasonable amount of time, who cares?

now if you're hauling two chords of wood to heat your house, you may need a few more HP....

(just for the record, HP in my house generally refers to harry potter...)

It's much the same why some people "need" fillet Mignon over round steak. It's a luxury that some are willing to pay to get. Otherwise, we could all stand in a bread line and eat what we are told, drive what we are told, and all the wealth will be split equally among us.........oh, wait.

Nice, dude. Very nice!

And yeah, clearly Ford is the domestic that is better prepared to weather this storm. Not so much from a financial standpoint, since GM really has a leg up with the Chapter 11. But Ford's turn around plan has been in motion for over two years and GM is just now figuring out what it wants to do and how to do it. Chrysler Group, under FIAT, is a walking question mark, IMO. But anyone who's bought shares of F in the last few months is pretty damn happy right now. I was late to the game and I'm still up almost 50%. I think it'll be late 2011/early 2012 before you can get a read on how GM is going to fare. And as I said, with FIAT/Chrysler, who knows? I'll be surprised if that rinky-dink FIAT 500 catches on here, but ya never know.

BTW, I have every intention of curing my addiction to horsepower. I'm going to do it at the same time that I cure myself of my addiction to pussy: when I'm dead.

I don't know if fuel efficiency is as easy a goal to achieve here. There are too many people who need vehicles such as trucks for work purposes. I suggest ditching pointless suv's (stupid useless vehicle) and Hummers. H1 are cool but really only need to remain a military vehicle. H2/H3 are sooooo useless. way to much plastic to consider taking it where a real Hummer should be able to go.:2 cents:
