If you re-read the original post, I think you'll find that he was not so much a tattletale as a liar. There were no racist remarks made to him, only from him aimed at the OP's white co-worker.

That's a little over the line, it's a social taboo to use that kind of language in public so it also implies the person is in an enraged state possibly ready for violence. If a white guy had said the same thing I would have told him off too.

Laugh off? Well I've also seen more than a few black people get the crap beaten out of them for making racist remarks. Things are changing very fast and black people aren't given that same leeway as they from the 1970's till about 2006. I've noticed a lot of black people getting called out, fire, shamed and beaten down for making racist remarks.

Now we're equal.

Yeah I was telling a joke. Also tattletales don't necessarily need to speak the truth. Not the whole truth anyways.

As far as racism I don't really believe in it especially "hate crimes". All crime is hate just to different degrees and occasionally different motivations. If someone wants to insult you then you have the right to insult back or get them in trouble etc... color isn't the issue.
