Who's better than Lebron right now? Please. Lebron has been the best player in the league for years now. And he's not even as good as he can be. I suck Kobe's cock and I can admit that.
I'll admit I didn't think he deserved 1st team all defense, but he shut down Rose like a punk. 6%. Really? I'm ready for my serving of crow.
Lebron has the tools to be the greatest. He already has the numbers to be the greatest. He's already a multiple MVP. Now he needs the rings, and he needs to be MVP for those rings to be considered better than Jordan. A DPOY would help too. I bet he wins that and MVP next year. He makes Wade, an all world player look like a mediocre 2nd option.
He's the best scorer in the league. He's an elite rebounder. He's an elite passer. He's an elite defender. There really is nobody else in his league. If not for injuries to Noah and Boozer, LBJ is 3x MVP. He lost respect for the super team thing, but it's a super team because of him, straight up.
LBJ is dominant like Shaq was dominant. You cannot defend these guys. They make teams champions. He'll go down as a top 5 player of all time.
The fact is, a lot of players have been the 'best player in the league' for a few years, but we are talking going up against the best ever. This idea that LBJ is unstoppable is false. He is very stoppable, and the person that shuts him down most is himself.
LBJ is still learning the game. He has the physical tools to be great, but there are many times that his lack of basketball IQ shows. He shuts down when it is clear that he cannot win. Strategy on the court still greatly confuses LBJ. This is why he joined the Heat, so that he could be paired with players that can still keep the team in the game when these moments happen. He wants all the freedom he can get to just play.
Another issue is he is a revenge player on offense, and he isn't that good at it... yet. When he feels challenged, he wants get back, but he has yet to find his 'get back' spots. M.J., Kobe, Reggie, and Bird were the same way, but they would get you to a places on the floor where they consistently kill and leave defenders helpless. Such as:
MJ and Kobe: FT line extended, post position
Bird: Face up, 3pt. line corners
Reggie: Off screen, 3 quarter pivot, catch and shoot
LBJ goes to places that even he has not fully developed game for. Reactionary step backs going right, and stand still face up jumpers are two things he really doesn't do consistently well, but seems to do them consistently. Why? Just because.
Now one thing that LBJ can't control is his level of competition. This is something that will always keep Jordan above everyone. Almost half of the NBA's Top 50 players played in Jordans time, and he has had legendary moments against most of them. The list of 'woulda had a ring if not for the Bulls and MJ' list of greats is long, and James can't fight that.
In order to be in the greater than M.J. discussion, ANYONE would have to:
Win 6 or more titles
Win 5 or more MVP's
Win DPOY
Be Finals MVP in every appearance 6 or more times
Be All-Defensive team 9 or more times
Be an NBA All-Star 14 or more times
Be All-NBA first team 10 or more times
Average 30+ ppg for the span of your career
Average 50% FG in the span of your career
Lead the NBA in a major defensive category 3 or more times
Win 2 or more Olympic Gold Medals
If you don't end it all like this or better, I really don't give a damn how much bigger, stronger, faster, quicker, or talented you seem... DON'T WASTE YOUR BREATH SPEAKING THE NAME OF MICHAEL JORDAN IN ANY GREATER THAN OVERALL COMPARISON.
PERIOD.
