i just did some searching and found out that i tunes will back up your library to cds for you, but they will only beable to be used to transfer the songs back to itunes

i have almost 2000 songs in my itunes library, so that would be a lot of cds

i had another thought

if i were to put as many of my songs as possible onto my ipod, would this work?

if my computer crashed would i be able to tranfer them to an itunes library on another computer. this would probably be a brand new itunes with an empty library

Will put out on the first date.
The easiest thing i can see is copy the itunes folder within "my music - in windows" to a cheap high capacity portable USB pen drive as you can pick up 4Gb or more for a few $ or £ and it would save the hassle of burning many CD's or a few DVD's.

Pretty soon some enterprising computer expert will invent a way to store tunes on your T-shirt - if they haven't already.

Put a copy of them all on an external hard drive. That way they're separate from your computer if/when it crashes.

Never argue with a fool. People might not know the difference.

Yes.

But, you can't do it directly. You'll have to move the files from your ipod to your computer first.

I'm too lazy to set a usertitle.
There is a program that lets you transfer songs from your ipod onto a computer. If I can remember what it is called I'll PM you.

oh ok, but how do i do this?

All the mp3s on your iPod are stored as hidden files in a folder called iPod_Control. So provided your ipod can be read by your computer as an external hard drive and you've set folder options to view hidden files, you'll have access to to all the music stored on it.
