I worked with a guy named Nate Melendez once who said he was Puerto Rican, from Puerto Rico, and was highly flamboyant about his Puerto Rican heritage. Nate Melendez was born in Parma, OH and had lived there for his whole entire life.

Yes. I'm English and they are always American. I live in America and have for a long time. It is hardly an impossible divide to overcome. Although the opposite often applies; I meet Americans who think they understand the English better than they do in actuality because they are so familiar with many aspects of popular culture.

On occasion, when I get asked about dating American women I always reply, "they keep everything bottled up I can never work out when they are not happy." Now to those of you familiar with the English sensibilities the irony of this statement will be readily apparent. In my experience American women will tell you in no uncertain terms how and why they are not happy and what you need to do to make it right. No matter how physically impossible.

Families are very different, and different in how they function, which can and will be a HUGE challenge when they meet. Cultural priorities are different, and play a huge role. Language barriers also creep up.....though she speaks near perfect English, it is not her first language, and that can be a hurdle at times as well.....the things you and I take for granted have to be spelled out, and that can be confusing and not always brought forth in the way you think it should, or even could be.

Though I've never dated someone from another country, I've dated girls from different cultures. There's definitely some barriers that you have to overcome when you date someone with a different value system than yours. In my case, my mom's Mexican and my dad's a corn-fed white boy American, but most of my cultural influence comes from my mom's side. That said, I've tried dating girls with the same heritage as me, but who had a greater influence from the American side, and pure white girls, and there had definitely been major arguments from seemingly insignificant matters that we had different cultural views on.

A lot of people here in the United States who claim they are from another country were born here in the US, so it's hard to tell if someone is REALLY from another country or just has a background or family history with that heritage.

Most of my past girlfriends are from different countries, mainly Asian. My last girlfriend, of nearly 4 years, is from Bosnia. She was the first European girl I dated, and she was great.

The one thing I've learned is all complaining from a woman isn't done to illicit a solution from you.

In many cases when a woman is complaining (even about something you do or don't do) she's not looking for you to provide a solution as she's likely determined how and when she plans to deal with it.

my wife is from a different country/culture/race. we have been happily married for over 30 years. we are about as different as two people can get yet we take good care of each other. sometimes communication was a problem as were cultural differences and expectations but we overcame all of that and live a rather enchanted life with lots of blessings. one cannot have feelings of superiority in any way, but rather embrace and appreciate the differences. :thumbsup:

To me many women seem to be from another planet let alone another country.

I agree, woman are from somewhere a long, long way away.......have dated women from several different parts of the world....could not understand any of them.....well not for very long.
