Nope, but seeing as how Im from LA and we a high percent of our population is made up of illegals, I wouldn't say Im missing much. I know mexico may be dangerous, but I would still say american thugs are worse. Reason being, the thugs in mexico are so bad because the country is already shitty and they have no one to stop them from doing crime. In the USA, we have police everywhere and yet thugs still commit crime and murder like its nothing.
Who would you think is worse:
A guy who kills someone in front of the store in a city where the police dont give a shit
or
A guy who kills someone in front of a store in a city where police are trying to catch criminals.
The police don't give a shit, eh? I thought you just said that you haven't spent much time in Mexico, or did that change since you started your post? For your information, there are as many security cameras, police officers, etc. in Mexico as there are in the US, perhaps more, as there are 2 different police agencies in Mexico (federal and local). The problem is that the police aren't paid living wages (for some it's a second job), they aren't properly trained (I once had a driver who had been a police officer for a few months. The only training he received was on firearm safety.), and they aren't backed by a solid judicial system that's impervious to corruption. Police officers, for the most part, try to carry out their job to the best of their abilities, but there is only so much temptation that a person making minimum wage with 4 mouths to feed can take before giving in to corruption. Police bribes are common not because the police doesn't give a shit, but because the officer can't afford to feed his family on his wages. Also, many times criminals are able to get off with no serious punishment, and they immediately go looking for the guy who landed them in jail in the first place. Again, not a matter of not giving a shit, but a matter of personal/family security. Why risk your life or the lives of your kids if the guy that you just apprehended is gonna be in jail for 2 weeks, and then is gonna come back looking for payback? Another factor that makes the police be ineffective are drug cartels themselves. Cartels are better paid, better staffed, and better armed than the police forces. Many times police officers are offered to be put on the cartels' payrolls, and, if they decline the offer, they are usually killed. Again, why risk my neck if there's nobody to back me up? I'll just take the money that they are giving me and feed my family.
The country is not shitty, the corruption that abounds the country's politics is. Over the last 9 years, under the rule of a different party than the one that had been in power for the previous 71 years, law enforcement has improved, which is why the drug cartels have declared an all out war on the government. When the army began cracking down on cartel operations, the cartels countered with waves of violence all over the country. They murder innocent people, children, anybody who happens to be in the area of their intended targets. As for Americans being the main target,
nothing could be farther from the truth than that. The main targets are the people that the cartels decide are main targets, regardless of their nationality or cartel affiliation.
