It's Been A Year And I Still Can't Find A Job

I graduated about a year ago with a degree in Computer Information Systems and I still can't find a job. I have done small week projects but as of right now still nothing full time.

It has just been frustrating it just seems that no one wants to hire. And it also seems that companies want people with 3 plus years of experience. I have also tried Tech Agencies and those entry level positions are rare right now.

My question is how am i gonna acquire that experience if companies don't hire?

Its really tough right now and i am pretty sure other people are having the same problems. Any advice that you can give me or other people that are having the same problems feel free to post.

Try finding a job somewhere that needs a tech person such as a home care agency, hospital, restaurant, hotel, or something like that. Start out small; if you were to start out big you would have been given job opportunities during college or fresh out, but you are looking for one.

Start out small, get the experience, work your best, work your ass off, and don't give up. Don't be afraid to aim high, but remember the great quote from the movie The Jerk: Kids today, they just want to start out at the top and move sideways.

I hope I got the quote right, but you know what I mean.

Find a place that needs a computer guy, a tech guy, heck, try a high school. Work on their network, tech, whatever it is you do. You will get where you want if you are willing to work for it!

Now get out there and get your job and work your way up the technological corporate ladder!

I work in Information Systems and I will tell you, right now the job market is flat or dead right now. Most companies don't want to hire IT people outright, they would rather get them from a consulting company. That way they won't have to pay benefits and etc. It's tough right now for the job market, I'd love to leave my job(cause it sucks) and find a new one. But now is not the time for that. All I can tell you depending on where you are, just keep plugging. I know its hard but try one of the IT consulting companies, they are always usually looking for "bodies" at least it will help you get some experience.

My advice? Keep looking.

Also, don't expect some fucking aaaaawesome job to just fall into your lap. Take a lower level position where you can get one and work your way up. I know too many "just out of college" people that expect waaaaay too much when it comes to finding employment.

Looking to go where no FreeOnes member has gone before!
Just keep on keeping on. You'll find a job soon enough. Keep your head up and think positive.

Screw the marines, join the army like I did. They have bigger cash bonuses for enlisting. I hear you man I couldn't get a job for months and when I did, I was the first to get laid off because I was new. And in the army, with your college credits, you can enlist with a slightly higher rank than most people. Good luck

First things first. You would appear to be in a fairly saturated field..and add to that we're in an economic downturn.

I would say you have to be creative and use ancillary skills coupled with some niche training to find opportunities that aren't readily apparent. I would say for your specific case get some wireless networking certs....or go to the bookstore and get a couple of cert books. Almost everything is going to have an 802.xx and/or packet switching associated with it in the future anyway and their should be tons of opportunities....:2 cents:

When I was in my 20s, I worked two and sometimes 3 jobs to make ends meet... just keep trying and don't give up hope. Eventually, hard work pays off.

a job totally outside your field, which seems like a dead end job, can turn into something incredibly rewarding and maybe even a life-time career.

don't limit your options, be willing to do anything to pay the bills (you know, anything but sell yourself or work as a drug mule...), and try to look at the larger picture.

things can work out. even people here at the porn forum who are normally bitchy wankers are trying to encourage you. :glugglug:
