Walked by this place on my daily commute; literally right in the center of the financial district.

The Gunmen put up the standard Jihadist flag in the windows, but it's hard to believe it's not ISIS related. First Canada, now Australia. They need to end this now.

It is time to close borders and stop letting people coming from the countries where Isis is based to immigrate in our countries because there are a lot of potential threats.

Yeah, my kid sister had business with a firm right next door this morning. She said she walked right passed just before it went down.
Mum is freaking out with worry as mums do. Especially after my big sister, who lives in London, went through something similar when they had all that trouble years ago.

One douchebag has virtually shut down the city. Only a couple of weeks before christmas.

Asshole.

What about people who are trying to escape from ISIS ? Should be send them back there, into the hands of these bastards who wouls surely kill them for trying to escape to a non-muslim country ?

Well at least it's over. Looking at the footage it looked and sounded like a pretty fierce firefight. It's amazing that only 2 hostages were killed considering the number of hostages in such a confined area.

Is somewhere outhere.
It was a shame about the innocent ones being killed, but I'm glad that nutcase is dead and I hope it was a slow death for him as well.

Australia is a a major gun control country. Things may have turned out differently if a couple of patrons would have had a conceal carry permit and a .38 special at their disposal.

I can set my own custom title!

Sure many of the perpetrators of the 7/7 attacks in Britain were born and bred in Britain.

So it's not all bad news. The two that died weren't just victims, but heroes. The manager tried to wrestle the gun away which lead to the breakthrough that ended the siege, and the female was shot shielding her pregnant friend.

And now there's the #illridewithyou movement where people are volunteering to ride with people wearing Muslim clothing so they don't feel unsafe in public. Along with the support Muslims received in Canada after the Ottawa attack, it's nice to see we've progressed from the blind reactionary violence that usually follows events like this.

A woman is an occasional pleasure but a cigar is always a smoke.

I know I said this in the other thread, but it bears repeating, 43 gun homicides and 188 gun deaths TOTAL in 2012, and that was a 5 year high. Most Australians would like to stick with numbers like that than have a gun death rate comparable to America's in the name of "protecting" themselves.

Yeah, that is cool. Shame it could never happen in a country with republicans.

Yeah, a country with the same land mass as the USA but not one tenth the population. Not to mention the demographics of most gun violence and where it occurs. Make all Aussies move to the larger cities and live together and watch those numbers go up exponentially. Even with your wonderful gun control.

I agree, and I bet most Aussies would too.

IMHO the biggest impact Aussie-style gun control has isn't the number of guns, but rather the mentality society has towards guns in general.
Fact is that it's not that difficult to get a gun (illegally) in Australia. It's widely known you can get one in King's Cross in Sydney easier than you can get a mobile phone. But unlike the US, citizens aren't indoctrinated that guns are some god-given right, and the vast majority have no interest in owning one. I'd say it's the same (with varying degrees) in most civilized modern nations.

That's why presently in Australia you don't hear absurd rhetoric that we need more guns to prevent events like this, like the NRA espoused after Sandy Hook.
