John Madden Retired!!

It was just announced on the Dan Patrick radio show that HOF John Madden is retiring from his T.V. career in football. WOW.

Not to mention he was a great coach.

Maybe now Gamestops will no longer be flooded with unwanted copies of every Madden sports title that comes out every year. Seriously, that guy's face has been both a blessing AND a curse to the gaming industry.

Oh well, he could always play the part of the Skipper in a Gilligan's Island movie if he needs work.

I doubt if they would let a lucrative franchise like that end. I don't see why he can't stll lend his name to the game.

Madden is a legend. Jim Rome said a good point on his show this morning, replacing Madden with a copy of him will be a big mistake. Madden was a guy who would cut the crap of typical broadcasting, and called the game by his own thoughts.

Chris Collinsworth is like Katie Couric: Fake looking personalities, idiotic comments, and just read off a teleprompter.

Hell I wouldnt mind if it was just Al Michaels and Dennis Miller, just get somebody who isnt afraid to talk shit!

The only guys on the scene that can generate the kind of entertainment people like Cosell and Madden were able to nowadays is Chris Berman and believe it or not maybe Deon Sanders. I don't know if Sanders' act could work in a booth but that guy is funny as hell.

I think ABC ought to try Berman and Sanders in the booth together for MNF.

I liked John Madden. Sometimes he would state the obvious, but other times he would come up with a nugget of insight that most people never would have seen on the screen. It's also from him that I learned on of the best ways to understand what happens on each play, and that is not to just follow the football, but to watch what the line does from the center out after the snap first if possible. You can almost always learn more about what goes on that way. Madden might have been getting older, but he knew a lot about football, more than most people give him credit for today. Plus it's hard not to like the man who coached the old Oakland Raiders when football was more of a man's sport.
