Joining the NRA and buying an AR-15

Yeah, that’s all fine and dandy. I am not fidgeting around for shotgun shells in my pockets and loading a few at a time. The deadliest of all of the firearms I could obtain is an old fashioned goose gun. I want to stop an intruder and loading a shotgun more than likely in the dark or dimly lit room isn’t going to cut it. Those deputies would have probably tried to enter the school if Cruz had a shotgun.

Bottom line, against a tyrannical government, a shotgun isn’t going to stop those that come for your weapons. You’d have to be within 20 feet for it to be effective. That is exactly what they would love to face. I also want to stop an intruder, not destroy my home and personal belongings in the process.

There are 15 million AR-15’s in the U.S. the left want them because that is 15 million highly effective insurance policies that our second amendment rights stay as they are.

Once they are able to take one style of weapon they won’t stop until they get them all.

Why would you have a long ass goose gun or even a breakdown shotgun? A 12 gauge pump, with or without an extended mag tube, will do the job. If someone is inside your home, seeking to do you bodily harm, your concern is how many of your personal belongings you'd put holes in? I mean, let's say you plug the perp with your AR, and he's got a gushing chest wound. You're going to scream, "Hey, fucker! Quit bleedin' on my shit!!!"... and drag him outside? :D Nah, I'm just messin' with you. You're free to make whatever home defense choices you care to make. But your stated firearms choice for (interior) home defense isn't what is taught by home defense classes or tactical cops that I know. That's all.

Cruz's choice of weapon(s) had no impact, that I'm aware of, on the deputies entering or not entering the school. And it's not as if he had a .308 AR-15 with steel core ammo and a drum magazine. He had a .223 pop gun. No cop wants to get shot. But getting a hit in body armor by a .223 sporting round, versus getting sprayed with 12 gauge buckshot, is likely the preferred choice that most would take.

As for the tyrannical government belief... Look, my belief in the 2nd Amendment (and the NRA Life Membership that I've had for 35+ years) is based on that premise, not on duck or deer hunting. And while I hold the concept near and dear to my heart, the stark reality is this: those who may come to get you or your firearms will be younger versions of my uncle, with even more modern tactical training and weaponry. Inside or outside your dwelling, unless you are suited up with body armor and gas masks (and even then), whether you have an AR-15, a pump shotgun or five pistols and a Roman sword, it won't really matter. You may get an honorable mention alongside the Weavers as a martyr, but dead is dead.

Poor rice farmers by day effectively fought off a world military super power with small arms.

Same with a bunch of bearded guys on horses.

Use the weapon you are comfortable using. I am not a hunter, I don’t own a shotgun and as I said, I don’t want to be fumbling around for shells when I will at least be jacked up on adrenaline and nervous as fuck. My first concern is not damage to my home but I also would rather pay someone to clean up afterwards and repair bullet holes than a complete interior remodeling job.

I also would want to make sure that the intruder has assumed room temperature and another blast by the shotgun to ensure that he has is kinda messy too.

I am a good shot. Not sure why, but I am. My AR is light and I feel confident that I can be a threat against an intruder with it.
I believe confidence is of the upmost importance when defending yourself in that situation.

If I could be convinced that we have the will and fortitude that those people had/have, to suffer 10 to 1 casualties and plow on, I'd agree with you. But I don't think that's the case in large scale.

You know what would REALLY piss off Americans? Interrupting the Super Bowl with a State of the Union Address. Now that might cause some kind of uprising. :D

I think in that situation here, we'd be in an outright civil war and many if not most military and law enforcement would hold true to their oaths.

You should consider taking a home defense class at some point. Whatever weapon you prefer, I believe you'd find the training valuable.

The NRA is a lobby group for gun manufacturers. Their primary function is to boost sales for gun manufacturers and bribe politicians to block any laws that might cut profits to the gun manufacturers.

NRA online ad spending increased sixfold after Parkland shooting

http://thehill.com/business-a-lobby...reased-sixfold-after-parkland-school-shooting

Fucking lie.
The NRA is made up of American citizens that join together to ensure that our second amendment rights are not infringed upon. Do you know how much the NRA has given to political candidates since 1999? The NRA does not push legislation for any gun manufacturer over another. The NRA is an organization that fights lies and demagoguery like was on display by kids and left wing nutjobs like you. All of whom were protected by good guys with guns.

There is one solemn promise that I can make to wing nuts like you. Pass all of the legislation that you want. The day that you start knocking on our doors for our guns is the day that this cold civil war turns hot.

School shootings are good for business. After each mass shooting the NRA spends more on ads to scare people into thinking that their guns are going to be taken away. And what is the predicted gun owner reaction? To go out and buy as many guns and ammo they can afford. Gun Manufacturers profits go up. Works every time on mindless sheeple.

All republicans and most democrats would vote against drastic changes to the second amendment. I believe sane people should be allowed to buy guns, but first they must go thru a mandatory waiting period, background check, and a course on proper gun use and safety. Then they can have their precious guns and have fun shooting as much ammo as they can afford.
People who already legally own guns, must be allowed to keep their guns unless they are mentally unstable, and they should have to go thru a course on proper gun use and safety.
As always education and safety are the ways to solve this problem, and most Americans win.

One way of doing this is to have mandatory boot camp for a few summer months for all students who graduate high school.
This will teach them practical skills, give them some needed discipline, and foster more respect the military and their country.

No genius. The NRA doesn’t have to spend one dime on ads about gun grabbing. The left wing politicians do it for them. Then the sales go up.

"Daily spending by the NRA in the 24 days before the Parkland shooting averaged $11,300 but leapt to $47,300 on average in the 24 days after the shooting, Pathmatics found, a push that included heavy advertising in the state where the shooting took place.

Florida was the focus of a massive NRA effort on Facebook, jumping from the gun-rights group's ninth most targeted state to its third in the aftermath of the tragedy, the review found, according to the Tribune. The NRA's daily Facebook advertising dollars jumped from $4,400 to $34,000. "

That’s what we pay our membership dues for. To ramp up our counteroffensive when the left use these shootings as fodder for their propaganda. The NRA is not some benevolent God looking down on its members, it does what we want them to do. You keep referring to the NRA as if it was created on its own to brainwash millions into buying guns. Which proves your ignorance.
You’re not getting our guns. Pinky promise.

It's so fucking obvious that the NRA is a lobby group for gun manufacturers and resellers, regardless of the fact they suckered 5 million people into giving them membership fees for a card whose only use is a 5% discount at the gun store.
Only the minority extreme left wants to take away your guns, everyone else just wants better gun safety.

El Diablo Bianco speaks wisely, I think.

If we are talking getting something to protect yourself at home, or in the streets, at nigjt, etc., the small snub-nose makes the most sense, I would argue, too.

Who wants to walk around, having a big rifle hanging in front of him/her?

Because, if you walk around with said rifle hanging on your back, that is kind of asking for a sneaky person robbing you. That is why those officers who work in cclose-quarter situation (like prison guards) carry their rifles strapped on their chest.

And who would want to walk around like that?

To clear things up:

I am absolutely fine with you guys having and using a revolver, pistol, etc.

We don’t join the NRA for the discounts.
It’s not a “lobbying” organization for anything. It is to protect our constitutional rights, which ironically we constantly have to rally for.
