Assange could face death penalty in U.S. - Lawyers

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange will argue he should not be extradited from Britain to Sweden over alleged sex crimes because he could end up in the United States facing the death penalty, his lawyers said on Tuesday.

"Indeed, if Mr Assange were rendered to the USA, without assurances that the death penalty would not be carried out, there is a real risk that he could be made subject to the death penalty."

Why not, Palin has already said he should be killed for his actions so if she was to get in in 2012 she could make that a priority. However, Britain does not extradite people to countries where they will face the death penalty out of principle, this is why the US wants Assange extradited to Sweden because Sweden will simply drop the sex allegation charges and readily hand him over to the US. Basically the US knows the UK won't hand him over so they're using Sweden to get him away from here.

Not now. He has way too much support here at the moment and Cameron won't want to do anything more to piss off the British public more than he has already has done. I think the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts have finally severed that special relationship and seeing how much trouble the States are in, it doesn't really pay to be their lap dog anymore. The judges here are also pissed about the times the US refused to release video footage and other info of their troops who had killed British soldiers in friendly fire incidents, they won't make it easy for them to extradite Assange. I would've thought the US has bigger things to worry about than Assange in any case.
