In my experience, most host sites will spoof links that go to single pics sooner or later. Their deal with the content owner is probably to feature the sample set along with some promotion of the site belonging to the content owner. Very likely there’s some automatic software at the host site that detects traffic to a single pic, and steps in to interfere. I tried looking at many 1- and 2-year-old-posts recently ... most of the picset / vidset links still worked, but the single-pic links were toast.
