OpenCongress Summary:
The Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education (GIVE) Act would dramatically increase funding for AmeriCorps, with a goal of expanding from 75,000 volunteers to 250,000. The bill also would increase education funding and establish a summer service program for students, paying $500 (which would be applied to college costs) to high-school and middle-school student who participate.

Boy talk about some paranoid conspiracy mentalities.This volunteer increase in funding IMO is so that young people can get some money for further education(still not very much though) via other ways besides joining the military and then having to engage in questionable things like going to Iraq or other places and killing people for lies promoted by criminal president and his cronies.How anybody could think rewarding civilian volunteer service in such a way has a sinister side unlike military service is baffling.Lets give the youth of america some other option then just military service to get money for education is great idea.:thumbsup:

No bud I'm not surprised.For some anything the govt does has some secret agenda.But I'm missing where the idea that this would lead to kids being rats or denouncing anyone as people like the hitler youth were taught to do.I can think of a couple examples though of that kind of thing being encouraged in the US.I have heard of programs that encouraged school children to tell if they saw their parents smoking pot as an example.And when the govt after 9/11 started encourging people to report "suspicious" activity which led to things like totally innocent people being harrased and removed from planes etc.Things like encouraging kids to rat on parents for pot smoking are bad ideas IMO or being able to just denounce your neighbor will be abused by a neighbor who has their own reasons for wanting to cause trouble for their neighbor.Not saying people shouldn't report crimes but the govt needs to be carefull about asking for that kind of help and encouraging maybe false claims.
