Labor Day. Should it be eliminated?

Got here by spamming
In todays US laborers are not treated with the respect they earned in the day. 9 to 5 is BS now. Today it's 24/7. For they many do not get paid overtime or holiday time1 /2. Decent time for meals and/or breaks are in the past. Eating lunch at your desk or during a conference call is common norm. Health care costs rising, pension plans being reduced or eliminated for both current and retirees, getting stiffed or laid off due to age or overqualified. This includes college/high school grads working minimum wage or
working 2-3 jobs to put food, shelter and clothing for their family. Now we have illegal workers, underpaid teachers, unemployment benefits, brick and motor workers being laid off and manufacturers/customer service people being overseas. The biggest sin is when corporations lay payoff workers without informing them and do not pay their earned wages. How about checking e-mail, text, voice mail, conference calls or called back to the job while on VACATION!! I am sure there are those who don't take vacation/personal day off due to feeling guilty of non-performance. The ass kisser gets points and the dedicated hard worker get's dick.

Labor Day today is a farce. Change it to something else, eliminate this BS/PC day off until the American worker is truly celebrated and honored. Today, it is a joke.

Wait a minute, eliminate a national holiday where workers get the day off automatically and/or get paid time and a half for working, during the summer, right before the kids going back to school, that is always on a Monday? Are you out of your fucking mind?

I'll tell you what, you go have a parade or protest and I'll have my cooler and beach chair on the apron at Monmouth Park sucking some cold ones down. That's the way to celebrate/protest my employer.

It's a sad aspect of this country, the whole world, and humanity in general, but holidays mainly serve one purpose despite how many people would want and try to deny it. That is it allows people to have a mechanism whereby it's easy to pretend caring about something rather than actually caring and having to make true sacrifices because of that genuine caring. Why care about other people and good causes when you can just fake it a couple times a year and throw some table scraps to those below you all why giving yourself a nice self back patting and pretending your a good person?

Secondary purposes of holidays are as an excuse to get drunk, by material things one doesn't need for oneself or others because it's what society and businesses have conditioned use for, and as a day to sleep in after irresponsible and reckless revelry.

Conspiracy...
We need more holidays.

9/11 should be a holiday.

If it makes you feel any better, I've never really cared, and I most certainly never needed an excuse to get drunk! :D

I think you should protest. Go to work. Don't take any overtime if you're hourly.

Me? I'll heave a few cold ones and flip some burgers.

That's good advice, I would add for the OP, if you really want to be a rebel, pay your employer for the privilege of protesting with a free day of labor, that will show them what a real rebel you are.

Sure they were celebrating.

Ok kook, for the sake of argument let's say the Israeli Mossad was behind the 9/11 attacks. To what end? And Israel purposely attacked the U.S.S. Liberty too right?

Motivation? To intentionally alienate it's only fucking ally in the world?

Nevermind. You and those like you are beyond reason and hope.

They were not celebrating.

"We are benefiting from one thing, and that is the attack on the Twin Towers and Pentagon, and the American struggle in Iraq," Ma'ariv quoted the former prime minister as saying. He reportedly added that these events "swung American public opinion in our favor."

I agree with you that this is something that most Americans look forward to and enjoy... The Next Holiday!

Having said that, I actually forgot about it this year :o
