Letterman admits extortion and affairs

Late-night host David Letterman acknowledged on Thursday's show that he had sexual relationships with female employees and that someone tried to extort $2 million from him over the affairs. CBS says an employee has been charged with attempted grand larceny in the case.

Letterman told his story during a taping of his show, mixing in jokes to an audience that seemed confused about what it was. He called it a "bizarre experience" that left him feeling disturbed and menaced.

They probably couldn't tell if he was telling the truth or joking, especially if he was mixing in jokes. It's like when Michael Richards (Kramer) went on Letterman to apologize about using the "N word" but the audience was laughing not being able to realize that he was being sincere. When you're in a laughing mood, you'll probably laugh at almost anything

I guess next time someone commits murder, adultery or whatever crime there is *cough*onlycelebsitseems*cough* all you have to do is make jokes and go on Letterman. I agree. Especially if it's an obscure Republican politician, who claims to be a man of God, who claims to be part of some family values movement that passes judgment on other people (but not on his own kind), who creates lie after lie to cover up the affairs, who conspires with others to pay the extortion and even place family members of his paramour in restricted employment. When other members of The Family decide to go trolling for women, men, girls or boys, when they're caught, perhaps they should just come clean... the way that Letterman did - instead of being self-righteous hypocrites.

I happened to be watching Dave's show last night. And I was laughing too, because I didn't know if he was joking around or if he was serious. It was VERY awkward! But after I realized that he was serious, I thought, what kind of idiot would try to blackmail Letterman (of all people)? The one guy on commercial TV, who for his entire career has given the :thefinger to the network brass and isn't afraid to take on anybody. Give 'em hell, Dave! :thumbsup:

If you're ANYONE who criticizes people and behavior while representing a facade of having superior behavior but are ultimately found to be saying one thing while doing the opposite, you're a fucking hypocrite. No. People generally understand the imperfection of other people and character failings happen. If Letterman sat and used his position in the public eye to rail against people's morality and criticize there personal failings all the while engaging in the very behavior he's criticizing....he would be considered a hypocrite too.

Why not live your life through someone else's. It's a way to forget about all your problems. Guess what Letterman, for how bad it sucks, is not going through anything else that other men have not gone through. Plenty of men have messed around only to have it bite them in the ass. Now the only saving grace is hopefully this was before he got married or at the very least got engaged. Cause now Mrs. Letterman can take half.
