manufacturing cost of a graphics card

mercury research revealed the actual manufacturing costs of a a graphics card (board, GPU, RAM, and other components), and the guys at http://www.3dcenter.org/ have obtained the list:

the low-to mid-range cards are all pretty close in cost to their actual retail price, but the geforce 285 (which retails for $350) only costs $163 to make... quite a nice profit margin there.

of course... with apple there is always a 300% greediness margin, as well as a 400% smugness mark-up
but it is rare to see a list of graphics cards, especially so many, so i thought this might be interesting.

When you factor in R and D, marketing, distribution, damages, labor etc...most of those are probably sold at cost or at a loss. Its easy to see how prices can go through the roof real fast.

well most of the market is OEM contracts, only about 15% -to 20% are retail sales. and OEM usually means low-end crap that the dells of this world then market as "super multimedia HD-ready" super graphics.
